    I had directTV and switched so I can get the HD DVR for free. I can’t say I miss direct tv at all. The VIP722 is fantastic, comes in handy on Thursdays when I have to dvr fringe, greys anatomy, and the office at the same time

    I’ve had DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse and Comcast and the winner in my book is AT&T U-verse. I just love the features, low cost and great customer service. I’ve never had DISH, probably because they weren’t or aren’t in my area? I don’t know anyone who has DISH.

    I have uverse awsome fantastic. Love it. So much better than direct or comcast. Comcast was the worst by far. Uverse is cheap great selection and I’ve never had a problem. Unlike direct or comcast

    Directv actually intentionally slowed down their new sub growth on purpose, the reason being the startup costs for a new sub is really high & was hurting the bottom line.
    Now that they are “cathching up” the push will be on again.

    Also D12 the new directv HD satellite is targeted to launch december 29, 2009 + will add more new HD channels during the spring/summer frame & that will be annother promotional tool in 2010 for directv.

    By summer 2010 directv will have more HD channels than any other provider.

    how can they say that directv is still way ahead of dish network ive had both of them at different times and i liked directv or dish network plus dish network dropped versus channel and a while back they dropped the local network chanels i am glad i got away from dish network i now have comcast but i am looking to get back to directv with comcast triple play its like a monthly credit card bill way out of sight and crazy

    I changed from Direct TV too. The response time was so slow it drove me crazy. Dish is soooooooo much better. Very fast response time when changing channels. Price is much better too. I even paid $240 to get out of my two year contract with Direct TV and it is worth every penny.

    Fringe Fan,

    Do you DVR 3 shows at once with one DVR or are you using mulitple DVRs? I’ve been thinking about switching to Dish and that would be another positive.

    Scott M;

    We have one dvr box, i am able to watch tv in the living room with just one box. The dvr comes with 2 tuners to record 2 shows at a time, if you connect a regular antenna to the dvr you can record 3 shows at a time, which is very very useful. I dvr fringe on tuner 1, greys anatomy on tuner 2, and the office on the antenna, which grabs the over the air digital signal. Picture is flawless

    How far we’ve come…

    From pretty much a zero base in 1980, pay tv now has 92 million+ subscribers out of a 112 million household universe…

    And at an annual cost of $360 to $500+ (in an era of stagnant or now declining median incomes), it is amazing that pay tv almost never sees out-migration back to free tv…
