Syndicated Top 25: Judge Judy bests Oprah again + Legend of The Seeker

Judge-Judy

OK, it was during Thanksgiving week, but Judge Judy still won out, and sure even then the grand dames lost out to Two and a Half Men repeats, but still.

It was recently announced that Bonnie Hunt was done after the current season because she ranked 12th out of 13th among The Talk shows.  Unfortunately other than Oprah, Dr Phil and Dr. Oz,  none of the other talk shows made the list.    On a household ratings basis the missing talkers range from a 2.4 (Ellen) to a .8 (Bonnie Hunt).  For the weird holiday week below some sampling of the other talkers shows  "Rachel Ray" had a 1.8 household rating,   "Jerry Springer" had a 1.3 household rating, Wendy Williams a 1.2 and Tyra had a 1.0.

Legend of the Seeker fans, the show's fourth episode of season two didn't make the top 25 below but it had an average audience of   2.408. That's down from the third episode's 2.504 million which was up from the  2.24 million for the second episode and still off a bit from the season two premiere which averaged 2.58 million viewers.

Please note that the syndicated weekly results are delayed versus normal reporting.  While we get the broadcast and cable ratings for the prior Monday-Sunday period every Tuesday, there is an extra week of lag time with the syndicated ratings and these numbers are not for last week, but for the week before last.  So while Friday Night Smackdown! is now counted as a syndicated show and we are seeing the numbers again, they are delayed.  The numbers below are for Friday November 27, not December 4.

Please note that the #s for Monday Night Football are the total number both for the ESPN airings and the local markets where the games are syndicated to one of the local affiliates (a rule to ensure the markets playing the game can watch them, even if they don't have ESPN). As a result Monday Night Football will be at or near  the top of the syndicated lists until football season is over It's sort of bogus, but  I'm just reporting it as Nielsen does, but you can figure most of the viewing is actually directly on ESPN.  As of mid-November, the same now holds true for the Thursday games on NFL Network.

For syndicated shows which air on multiple days, the viewership shown is the average of all telecasts.

BUENA VISTA items are syndicated packages of old Disney movies. For more information click here.

DAD = Disney ABC Domestic Television, SPT= Sony Pictures Television, 2/T=Twentieth Television, ESP = ESPN, CTD = CBS Television Distribution.

  1. Thankfully you noted the Thanksgiving week information as a reason for Oprah’s low, but going further you notice that Oprah aired on Thursday (Thanksgiving itself) in many markets (some aired sports programming, btw) whereas Judge Judy didn’t air at all, which gave Judge Judy the advantage for averaging purposes.

  2. DuMont

MyNetworkTV’s flagship series ‘WWE Friday Night Smackdown’ is showing a little holiday season bounce off the ropes coming out of the November Sweep:

How did Oprah compare to Judge Judy during the recent November sweeps? That’s what matter. Wasn’t Oprah in reruns Thanksgiving week?

  4. lacx, I think November sweeps are mostly overrated outside of the local markets and press releases at this point. Unfortunately, I don’t have syndicated sweeps analysis and there’s not remotely enough interest in the topic for me to put it together manually. But taking the easy route two weeks prior to the one above, Oprah was ahead of Judge Judy.

  5. Smallville

Dam I was hoping that since Amy Teegarden guest starred it would’ve gone up o well at least legend of the seeker is still doing pretty good. I really am a big fan of LOTS and if Sam Raimi or anyone from the show is reading this I hope you guys go for like 8 seasons ur show rocks!

  6. JR

“Wheel of Fortune” looks to fluctuate between 10m-12m. Would any particular events dictate where it falls week-to-week? Or is it just s matter of catching it sporadically for some loyal viewers?

  7. tvmegafan

Legend Is Beyond Amazing!!! I know they will crack the top 25 soon, its sooooo goood, amazing quality, the writing is great its a winner!!!

  8. beth

Thanks for giving Legend of the Seeker numbers, that’s what I was looking for!

  9. DuMont

Robert, is the ‘Legend of the Seeker’ average audience of 2.408 million viewers for the two hour slot (one new episode plus one encore) or is it just for the new episode?

  10. DuMont, I think just the new episode – duration is listed at 60, and I’m not sure if the encore counts as nationally syndicated (it’s not in the results we see if it is, and at this point I think we see everything that counts). On my program lineup there are 3 channels I can receive it on including WGN. WGN airs the new episode and then the old episode immediately after. Of the other two, one only airs the new episode, and the other airs a new and an encore, but not in the same two hour block (or even on the same day for that matter).

  11. Smallville

Robert, actually (and i dont know if its just my state or everywhere) the encore episode airs before the new one. I live in Illinois and thats how it is. They usually air the week before’s episode right before the new episode so that if fans might’ve missed the week before they could watch it and then a new episode.

  12. pisher

Sounds like Seeker is doing well enough to come back for another season after this.

I enjoy it, but am hoping it doesn’t run for ages, like Hercules and Xena did. Let it go when it’s time, Seeker fans. Stories need to end. And Kahlan/Richard shippers in particular better root for it go go fast, because sooner or later Bridget Regan is going to heed the call of Hollywood, and Richard will end up with that Mord Sith hottie. :)

  13. Smallville

Pisher, I agree but LOTS has 11 books and the creators/producers plan on making every book apart from the series so there will be like 8 seasons probably in all if they combine 2 books into a season like they are doing now. Season 2 will be The Stone of Tears (2nd book) and The Blood of the Fold (3rd book) MY GUESS is that the first 11 or 12 episodes of the season will be on SOF and the last 11 will be on BOTF.

  14. flip

Thank you the special Legend of the Seeker mention!!

  15. Gary M

Legend of the Seeker is such a well done show, and the graphics are beyond amazing. I really wish they would advertise it more…I just stumbled upon it and it just held me spellbound right from the start. The chemistry between the extremely attractive leads (Bridget Regan and Craig Horner) is beyond anything I’ve ever seen.
