NBC's Jeff Zucker

THR reports that  NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker has signed a new three year deal that will keep him at NBC Universal through 2013.   Zucker is set to run the new joint venture between NBC Universal and Comcast, but that deal could take 12-18 months to get regulatory approval, potentially giving Zucker at least a year and a half of running the new venture.

In the words of teenage girls everywhere, “OMG!”

Only at GE/NBC could somebody do so poorly at their job, and then get a new contract.

  2. bf

Who is he sleeping with to get such job security?

  3. People don’t learn, do they…

Well, Michael Brown was the head of FEMA when Hurricane Katrina hit. After the lack of relief from FEMA by Michael Brown, Bush told him he was doing one heckuva job. You see the distinction. Zucker runs NBC into the ground and next, he’s rewarded with a huge contract. Jeff Zucker is doing one heckuva job!

  5. HBO has managed to get new management from their downward spiral 2 years ago. Now look at them, they have True Blood, Big Love (which started 3 years ago), Treme and Boardwalk Empire. My point is, HBO has turned themselves around, so why can’t NBC? If HBO, can get out of their creative/ratings slump, then why can’t NBC? If HBO can replace their management, then why can’t NBC? Yes, NBC has Jeff Gaspin, but they really need to get rid of Jeff Zucker.

I would not say he has done poorly at his job. Mr. Z has put together the most successful cable television network period. His biggest mistake has been Leno.

  7. Okay, I’ll give him credit for cable. But, Ben Silverman has really ruined Jeff Zucker’s reputation.

This guy must give good BJ’s…

    WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I SOOOOO hope The CW starts pulling in better ratings than NBC soon.

  10. Brian

This is like the Detroit Lions signing Matt Millen to his extension in 2005.

  11. Sean Phillips

WOW, expect NBC to be lose to the CW in 3 years. Seriously. This man makes me wish colon cancer were more lethal.

  12. Dirk

    So long NBC!!!!!

  13. This is like the Los Angeles Dodgers trading Pedro Martinez to the Montreal Expos for Delino DeShields. Even Delino DeShields complained that was a bad trade on the Dodgers part.

  14. Don J

Sucks for NBC since this cheap bastard is probably going to convince the Comcast execs to run NBC as cheaply as possible.

  15. Shem

    what’s with the cartoons??

  16. oneeye

HBO had much stronger shows in the early 2000′s, like Rome, Deadwood,

HBO currently is very weak, but doing ok I suppose.

  17. aznfratboy

R.I.P NBC, you’ve held some of my favourite shows,
    Friends, FNL, Cheers, ER

    Pity…

  18. Terry

Well, I guess it is unusual to change management in the middle of a deal.

  19. Chief

Jeff Zucker is the Jake Delhomme of television executives.

  20. Eric (Ohio)

    wow?
    why?
