Scoreboard NBC ABC CBS FOX CW
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 1.7/6 1.5/5 1.2/4 0.9/3 0.5/1
Total Viewers (million) 7.96 5.57 4.79 2.41 1.36

With CBS mostly in repeats, NBC ruled the night for a change with Dateline (focusing on Tiger Woods) the night's most-watched program on the broadcast networks.  Law & Order was also strong and  The Jay Leno Show's ratings were up versus a typical Friday, it was still not enough to lead it past ABC's 20/20.

Ahead of the move to Wednesdays at 10pm, Ugly Betty rose again with adults 18-49, from last week's 1.2 to a 1.4 rating and 4.8 million viewers overall, it's best on Friday since the season premiere.

Dollhouse was up a bit over last week, particularly in the 8pm hour where it pulled a 1.0 rating with adults 18-49 (versus last week's .8 rating for the 8pm episode).  But how you gonna  Lie To Me and be all up in my face about a treatment, I don't have time for no nerd convention.  Did I fall asleep?    Or something like that.  Anyway, for the 9pm hour it was back down to a .8 rating with adults 18-49, but for the two hour block it averaged over 2.4 million viewers and a .9 with adults 18-49.  Last week for the two hour block it averaged 2.05 million viewers and a .8 with adults 18-49.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Oh, my goodness! Yes, Ugly Betty’s ratings were up again. Hallelujah! Last week a 4.23 now it went up to 4.8! That’s a good improvement! I guess people really did want to know who was pregnant!

  2. Realme2008

It also beat “Supernanny” it’s lead. Was this the first time this season it’s done that?

  3. Total viewers do not really matter, except apparently to most of the people who read our site :-) But the demo gains are good, too, now up 75% since its “Black Friday” lows a few weeks ago. Still a dead show walking barring a miracle on Wednesday or ABC wanting more episodes for syndication regardless of the ratings.

  4. Holly

Were there any major preemptions last night? (Do they even play pro football on Fridays?)

  5. lukas84

    yey betty!

  6. Hudson

Hm, Well nobody can say they are happy with those DH ratings, but I would like to mention those two episodes that aired last night were quite good. :)

  7. Trevvy

How did Law & Order fair last evening? What an excellent episode. Great to see Benjamin Bratt. Merkerson is outstanding with her story arc this season. So hopeful that the character survives and she’s back for season 21 *LOL*

  8. Trevvy

Also, I read somewhere that NBC has ordered a full season of L&O (22 episodes – beyond the additional four that was announced a few weeks back). Does anyone know?

  9. true american

I think Law & Order should be on top of the chart at 8pm. right?

  10. J.G.

Law & Order keeps getting closer and closer to Season 21.

  11. Post updated (and I’ll get the table resorted in a moment).

Holly, I saw no local preemptions that were a.) major or b.) would’ve impacted FOX at all. In Des Moines they got college b-ball instead of Ugly Betty.

  12. J.G.

Trevvy, I haven’t heard about a complete 22 episode order yet but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case.

  13. Frick/John

The only reason everything is up is because CBS was on repeats.

  14. Frick/John

And what the fricks up with my picture? D:

  15. Jenny

In Washington State they aired “Big Daddy” instead of Ugly Betty. I was so mad.

  16. daniel patrick

i think you got the CBS and NBC pitures on the table mixed up

  17. ron

“and though a surprise appearance from Sarah Palin lifted The Jay Leno Show’s ratings versus a typical Friday”

This is incorrect. Palin appeared on The Tonight Show with Conan, not Jay’s show.

  18. yikes. Thanks Ron, that was a pretty big error. I suppose since I don’t actually watch any of those shows, in my mind THE JAY LENO SHOW still IS the TONIGHT SHOW ;-)

    Pretty glaring error though. Fixed!

  19. chrisjozo

    Robert,
Betty got preempted in Seattle too. There they played the movie Big Daddy instead for whatever reason.

  20. Yeah, KOMO in Seattle aired “Big Daddy.” West Coast pre-emptions are unsual.
