New York, NY -- December 14, 2009 -- New Year’s Eve might be three weeks away, but it’s not too early to toast Syfy’s remarkable 2009.
Powered by the game-changing July 7 brand evolution, Syfy is soaring toward year’s end on the wings of the channel’s most-watched five month period ever in total viewers and Adults 18-49 (July-November).
During this period, Syfy rose to the #4 cable entertainment network in Adults 25-54 (762,000) and #6 in Adults18-49 (673,000). Since the brand evolution, Syfy has had its best July-November performance among Adults 18-34 (averaging 268,000 viewers), compared to previous July-November time periods. This has also generated new viewers (vs. 3Q ’08) with total viewers +12%; Adults 18-34 + 19%; Adults 18-49 +13%, and Adults 25-54 +11%.
Syfy has also outdelivered its upscale viewers by +13% among Adults18-49 with $75K+ income and +21% among Adults 18-49s with $100K+ income

Syfy is also on pace for the best Fourth Quarter in its 17-year history among total viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49, and key women’s demos.
Said Dave Howe, President, Syfy: “On every conceivable level, this has been a terrific year for the Syfy brand. From extraordinary programming and inventive marketing to innovative digital initiatives, we’ve managed the exceptional feat of successfully broadening our reach while remaining true to our core viewer base. None of this could’ve been achieved without our viewers, to whom I give greatest thanks with the promise that Syfy will imagine even greater in 2010.”

Such an unfair comparison SGU and SGA.
Still trying to spin SGU’s paltry first season ratings as better than SGA’s final and tired season. Who’s dumb enough to fall for that comparison?
Those look like some good numbers for ScyFy, considering all the big broadcast network and even cable networks like FX, USA, HBO etc, actually really surprised about Sanctuary one of my favorite shows by far and didn’t know they were getting 1 mill in the 18-49 share, so that’s good considering i thought it was lower, learn something new everyday.
I’m glad Warehouse 13 did well. I can’t wait to see how they handle the cliffhanger ending. I hope the figure out a way to make Leena not a mole.
If WH13 was such a strong go-getter…where the hell is it?
There’s not be an episode for months, nothing on the website, and no buzz anywhere that I can find.
I *do* like the show; it’s quirky; even a chance to learn something, though I’ll bet their history is more fake than the NYT.
Why would you pull a show from rotation for such a large chunk of the year?
Brian,
It’s pretty standard for cable series these days. Look at MAD MEN, BREAKING BAD, DAMAGES, etc. Besides, I think W13′s breezy tone is much better suited to summer.
But Sanctuary is way down from its premier year? Somebody give that Syfy press writer a raise. LOL
According to TVBtN own charts Syfy’s Primetime Net Avg for the Week of Sept 21-27 was 1103 (000′s)m the 18-49 Avg for that week was 5655 (000′s) and the Total Avg. 522 (000′s). The Prime Net. Avg got as high as 1507 for the week of 10/26-11/1 and after some bouncing as low as 1171 is back to 1271 (need tomorrow’s numbers
). The 18-49 Avg was as high as 816 (000′s) for that same October week and is now at 638 and the Total Avg was as high as 734 (000′s) and is now at 571.
If Syfy is doing so well in 2009, then their previous numbers must have either been horrendous or we are ‘making mountains out of molehills’ in the nicest possible way of course.
This is fascinating stuff.
@ Brian Fahrlander, W13 will be back in the summer for 13 eps I think? There was some weirdness in an article Syfy released about not ‘wanting to do’ more than 13 eps? Something about fitting it on the schedule? I didn’t really understand it since most networks will make room for a popular new hit but what do I know.

The people who don’t know the truth behind the comparison will buy it, thus wrongly believe SGA wasn’t as successful or popular as U is being touted.
@Cimmer
Sanctuary is matching around what SGA did last season, but SGA skewed better in the younger demos.

SGA’s “final and tired season” had more viewers than Seasons 3 and 4.
Not so tired, eh?
@ha ha
Um yeah for a tired season to gain more viewers is not exactly tired. Granted it was not ratings that got SGA cancelled, it was a creative reason by the producers. SGU could match SGA’s “tired season” numbers identically and it could still very likely be renewed for a 2nd season.
@Marc but I like Sanctuary and I’ve been watching it’s ratings tumble this season. I know it’s a cheap show to produce and it just got renewed but I think that’s more due to Syfy having nothing to replace it rather than that it’s doing that well; which is a shame.
Stargate Universe
Ratings so far in million viewers per episode live +SD (same day) and live +7 (days) and the difference between them:
1./2. Air, Part 1 and Part 2
SD: 2.346
+7: 2.779
Dif: 0.433
3. Air, Part 3
SD: 2.447
+7: 2.99
Dif: 0.543
4. Darkness
SD: 2.099
+7: 2.6
Dif: 0.501
5. Light
SD: 2.015
+7: 2.7
Dif: 0.685
6. Water
SD: 1.974
+7: 2.64
Dif: 0.666
7. Earth
SD: 1.626
+7: 2.3
Dif: 0.674
8. Time
SD: 1.802
+7: 2.529
Dif: 0.727
9. Life
SD: 1.891
+7: 2.44
Dif: 0.549
10. Justice
SD: 1.340
Unfortunately most of the live +7 numbers are more rounded than the SD numbers. I don’t know more precise live +7 numbers.
The precise SD average is 1.949 million viewers if you divide by 9 the total viewers of all broadcasts (Air, Part 1 and Part 2 were one broadcast).
If you count the 2.346 million viewers for Air, Part 1 and Part 2 two times and divide by 10 for the amount of episodes, the precise SD average is 1.989 million viewers.
The SD average for the last 5 episodes is 1.727 million viewers.
@ Cimmer
Yeah I like Sanctuary also and it will be fine because it is cheaper to produce and likely more profitable. As per SGA, I think people realize now that SGA was not canned because of ratings. I do think the budget constraint came from the MGM end rather than SyFy. where as with SG-1 the show was simply becoming too expensive to offset it’s ratings. That was according to SyFy btw. SyFy never mentioned about SGA cancelling due to performance.David Howe did say it was a producer’s creative decision.
I guess my point is SGU could be doing what SGA did and it would still be renewed for a 2nd season.
@J/K
Air part 1 and 2 are considered one telecast and only are counted once, FYI.
@ Marc
I weren’t sure how to count it so I mentioned both ways.
