House-2009-Premiere-FOX

Broadcasting & Cable's Melissa Grego might be the most versatile reporter in the TV trades.   She started the week off with the best primer on retransmission consent and what it means for the broadcast TV business.  Now she brings us word that FOX has moved up the return of House by two weeks to January 11, where it will  compete with Chuck's regular Monday 8pm time slot premiere.   House had previously been scheduled to return on January 25 and will still have the night off on January 18 when two hours of 24 airs.

  1. Considering the break for 24, you kind of wonder if this wasn’t done specifically to piss off Chuck fans. ;)

  2. Chuck is clearly too much of a threat and must be stopped, at any cost! ;)

  3. I’m with Bill. Much more of a “Let’s screw with NBC simply because we can!” move (I don’t doubt that Reilly still holds a bit of a grudge). But I like the “If we can’t have “Dollhouse and Fringe” you can’t have “Chuck!” angle. ;-)

  4. What say you guys on Chuck’s premiere numbers? I feel like there’s so much buzz about the new season that a) I may be missing out on a good TV show and b) it almost certainly will do better than it did last season, right?

  5. Knope, we’ll see. I’m thinking it may be more like the Dollhouse buzz surrounding the season 2 premiere, and it’s mostly contained to the internet, but we shall see.

  6. Tommy

Yeah, I don’t see Chuck’s ratings going up. But if it can manage to get the same ratings it got last year that should make NBC very happy.

I’m buying stock in Subway first thing tomorrow.
I predict a pre-emptive save my show campaign.

At least there wont be the huge ratings drop (in addition to any premiere drop) when house would have returned anyways…it’ll just be built in to the premiere.

  9. Audrey

LOL. Poor Chuckie there can’t get a break from Jack Bauer or House.

Sadly, I have to agree. But let’s hope this thought is proven wrong.

Genius move by Fox, a little messed up though.

  12. Mumbo

    Ouch. Fox plays hard.

You know what would be yet another kick in the nuts to NBC? Have Hugh Laurie on Leno the week before.

I’ve only watched a few episodes live throughout the 2 seasons, i only Chuck when HOUSE reruns.

  14. Does Fox really want to beat down NBC this much?

  15. Does Fox really want to beat down NBC this much?

Of course they do! And as far as insult to injury and kicks at the groin region, the fact that HOUSE is a ratings beast AND an NBC Universal produced show that NBC didn’t pick-up to begin with adds a nice salt on the wound dimension.

  16. Anna

I’m still watching Chuck LIVE and taping House. Damit Fox, you leave me no choice!!!

  17. tw

well the foxnews team hates NBC like the well, like terrorism or healthcare reform. and Fox may do the same.
I think its mostly to prevent chuck from building momentum. And that may be a smart choice, dont let people get invested in a show that might steal viewers from house.

But on the other side chuck fights not against house but against heroes. if it can beat heroes numbers on that slot (against house) it WILL get a 3. season.

    so fingers crossed!

  18. Dan

Sucks for Chuck. Though The Bachelor and HIMYM/AOP are competition enough, House will pummel it.

  19. KaramelwithaK

I will be watching HOUSE no matter what it is opposite of.
I ADORE Hugh Laurie AND Robert Sean Leonard as Wilson.
    Just CAN NOT miss them!!

  20. Mia

    HOUSE FTW! always!
