Even though the CBS line up overall was down vs. their last new telecast night, it swept the competition away on Tuesday to average a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating on the night.
Compared to their last original telecasts on 11/14, NCIS was down 2% to a 4.3 adults 18-49 rating. NCIS: LA fell 16% to a 3.6 rating. While The Good Wife was flat with a 2.8 rating (but did hit a series high in average viewership).

After yet another telecast this season of  A Charlie Brown Christmas, ABC's "What were they thinking?" comedy hour plunged as Scrubs fell 22% from last week to a 1.8 rating, and Better Off Ted found new levels of pitiful with a 1.3 rating (lowest ever) in its second outing, down 13% from its premiere.

NBC's Sing-Off was up 13% from its premiere on Monday to a 2.6 rating, tieing Fox's So You Think You Can Dance (which was flat vs. last week's 2.3 rating) in the 8pm hour, and crushing the ABC comedies and Fox's Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live special at 9pm which could manage only a 1.7 rating.

The Jay Leno Show was down 38% from its post Biggest Loser finale telecast last Tuesday, but its 1.8 rating will still have some "Leno Ragers" fuming.

Definitions:

*Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted ViewingProgram ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

At least we got 2 seasons of Better Off Ted.

  2. cool

    LOL with ABC.

  3. Nick

Wow, CBS had an excellent night an annihilated the competition. Kudos to The Good Wife. It seems like it grew substantially in overall viewers since its last broadcast. Maybe it was because of Julianne Margeulis’s Golden Globe nomination sparking interest in the show!

  4. Interesting. NBC is well off its usual BL numbers to lead-in to Leno, but Leno is barely off its normal Tuesday rating.

  5. Joe

These r regular numbers for NCIS’s

  6. J.G.

February can’t come soon enough for ABC.

  7. Frick/John

Looks like TSO is a good lead-in for TJLS.

  8. Frick/John

Also, Scrubs has been good this season.

Not surprised with Better off Ted going down. The premiere was a real disaster. Like I said yesterday, they dumbed down the show, and watered down the characters. They all went from quirky to bland cutesy. The few viewers they had were not watching it because they wanted cutesy. In an attempt to appeal a broader audience they are loosing the core, and the quality. Before, ABC had a critically acclaimed show that very few watched. Now it has a turd that no one watches.

Very upsetting about Better Off Ted. Love that show. It’s a lot funnier than most sitcoms currently on tv. : (

  11. Claxton Markoni

Good for the Sing Off, it is currently the best show going on television right now, and that includes Better off Ted.

  12. rob

Scrubs and Better Off Ted are up against all repeats next Tuesday.

  13. BIG DADDY

This was one of the worse nights for broadcast tv that i’ve seen in awhile..
    The Sing off is pitiful
    Gordon Ramsey’s show is awful
Better of Ted/DEAD should never have been remade
    Scrubs is bad.
    The Forgotten is done
SYTYCD is downward… (should be summer only)

  14. Blackadder

ABC certainly arent doing themselves any favours with all their stupid repeats and christmas movies! CBS is an absolute powerhouse at the moment. It’s airing new episodes of its shows and killing in the ratings, plus I’d say it has the best weekly line up of all the networks.

The Good Wife is surprising, while it may not be the highest rated show on TV but last night it did better than an original epiosode of Greys Anatomy in viewer numbers! That has to count for something?!

  15. Holly

CBS had the same amount of total viewers as the other four networks combined

I know, total viewers are meaningless, but that’s still kind of impressive.

  16. Sparky

Really liked last nights NCIS. Not a fan of the spin-off – seems too forced. Of all of them I am really liking The Good Wife. If Will and Baxters conversation about Alicia is anything to go by, it loks as though something is definitely going to happen between the two of them. Kinda bumped that Will and Alicia did nt have any interaction last night after Baxter was caught considering the fact that she was responsible for bringing his friend down…Otherwise this is probably one of my new favorite shows.

  17. Johnny

The Sing-off was up? Wow, that’s a big surprise. NBC actually came in second for the night? Leno had better numbers than Gordon Ramsay? Am I reading this right?

  18. DuMont

So unfortunate are the ratings for ‘Better Off Ted’. I eagerly await a gargantuan ‘Rose Bowl’ lead-in to give this series a wider M18-49 sampling so that there may be an eleventh hour spike in the numbers leading to a creatively-merited third season.

Bully for The CW which is having wonderful success with their ‘Vampire Diaries’ marathon that so far is outperforming the Monday and Tuesday drama encore numbers (the ‘Vampire Diaries’ encore even attracted 150,000 more viewers and just 0.1 less in demo than the ‘Melrose Place’ fall finale last week).

  19. johnthemon

not bad for the sing-off. It may be this year’s “Superstars of Dance”, or it might actually turn out successful. Time will tell.

  20. Joe

Holly that is impressive even though useless but still something CBS can be happy about.

I think BOT has one more slim and I mean slim chance of being renewed is next week because all shows r in repeat
