And yet they won’t book them on the Tonight Show…

I find it odd that the Discovery Channel doesn’t include any actual numbers in their press releases, only percentages. I wonder how long this show will continue to run. Content-wise, they’re set as long their internet fan base stays strong, but eventually interest is going to dwindle.

  2. Moxy, different cable networks have different PR oddities. some of those percentages are ratings numbers but they referred to them by their official Nielsen labels.

Mythbusters averaged 2.305 million viewers a 1.4/2 household rating/share and a 1.0/3 rating share with adults 18-49 (all of them, not just the men) and yeah, none of that was in the press release.

  3. Moxy

    Ah, thanks for the info.

  4. Moxy: Why won’t the “Tonight” show have them on?

Oddly, I’ve lost some interest in the show. It’s still a cool idea and they’re doing very well, but I’ve been watching for so long that maybe I’m just a little tired of it. Plus, it’s on almost endlessly during the week that it seems a little over-saturated.

“For the year, Syfy is the #1 cable network in the Ghost Hunters Wednesday 9PM (ET/PT) timeslot for Adults18-34, Adults18-49, Adults 25-54, Men 25-54, Women18-49 and Women 25-54.”

This is from the Syfy press release for Ghost Hunters. How does that work if Mythbusters and Ghost Hunters are on a the same time? Does that mean that since Mythbusters is #1 among men and Ghost Hunters is #1 among adults the ‘adults’ number for GH is made up of more females since it’s #1 among women?

    Help, I’m confused – again.

  6. Cimmer, one problem is the comparison you make. You’re comparing one night of data versus “for the year” results from Syfy (which likely are in fact really for the calendar year, not just the current TV season that began in late September).

But certainly Ghost Hunters has more females 18-49 in general than Mythbusters.

  7. Cimmer

Ah there we go, just me being stupid. Thanks Robert. I can see GH having more females, I guess, (I like Mythbusters myself).

So GH is probably going for all of 2009? Do the networks usually use calendar or TV season or just whichever one shows them in the best light?

  8. it’s impossible to tell from the wording and not interesting enough to ask over. “Painting in the best light” is a job requirement for those writing releases.

Its strange but I think I control the universe. When I loose interest in a show it dies, when I start watching one more, it explodes.

I’ve started catching dirty jobs and mythbusters in first runs recently, was always a saturday or sunday afternoon rerun before.

Of course I love CHUCK and we all see how thats going (c’mon people, I cant keep it on just with my awesome power of controlling the universe!)
