CBS won the night with adults 18-49 and total viewers, while FOX won with adults 18-34 as So You Think You Can Dance ended its season.
CBS and FOX had all new lineups, with ABC in reruns with its comedies between 8p-10p and a new episode of the canceled Eastwick at 10pm. Criminal Minds was the night's most watched-show with adults 18-49 (3.7 rating) and overall viewers (14.6 million)
The Sing-Off was again ho-hum, ratings-wise, especially given the ABC repeats, but it is outperforming Mercy at 8pm and though it didn't outperform Law & Order: SVU in the 9pm hour, it does seem to be providing, at least relatively speaking, a decent lead-in for The Jay Leno Show which matched a nine-week high with adults 18-49.
In Late-Night Local People Meters Wednesday night:
- Conan O'Brien (1.0/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS's LATE SHOW (1.0/4) in Nielsen's 24 local markets with People Meters.
- At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.5/3 in 18-49 in local people meters) trailed CBS's LATE LATE SHOW (0.6/4).

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Considering ABC does pretty bad with their Drama repeats, their Wednesday night comedies held up quite well – especially “The Middle”
Eastwick is a very good show now… last episode was epic… but where are the promo trailers abc? How people can see Eastwick if there’s no marketing on this show??
ABC repeats are nearly on par with NBC. O.O
Spike, Eastwick has been canceled and is just airing out its already produced episodes. Why would ABC promote it?
The Middle is a keeper
Ok, those repeats numbers are great for them.. and wow with The Middle
cause it’s a good show … and cancel it was a stupid idea!
Cougar town repeat very well! not so good for modern family.
Paul, Cougar Town did worse than Modern Family, how does that translate to it repeating better? Just because it didn’t lose as much since it doesn’t do as well in first run?
Spike, Eastwick deserved to get cancelled based on ratings.
Oh snap! Look at The Middle go… go little engine, go! Considering that The Middle gets something like a 2.3 for new episodes… wow!
Spike, good show or not, what would really be stupid would be to keep a show on that not enough people are watching and willingly lose money over it. Granted, everything should probably get a longer chance to see if viewership picks up but that’s not how things work anymore.
And based on the quality of the show as well.
Wow–I’ve been watching the repeats lately of The Middle. Boy is this a funny show. And the three kids especially the one who plays little Brick are just adorable. I haven’t watched this show much before–however now I am waiting to see those episodes I missed and new ones in January. It looks like a keeper and hopefully it will steadily grow.
Spike, the show was cancelled because its ratings never got off the ground. Even the pilot couldn’t hold on to the audience from its lead in which got a 4.2. ABC was right to cancel it (but just so you know, I really do like it).
The Middle is very funny!
Eastwick was a bit cheesy (ok, very cheesy) at first, but then it found it’s groove. However, ABC never cared for it, they didn’t promote it ever when it wasn’t canceled yet. They pretty much directly admitted it in that blurb where they called it a “quiet success”. And so another fun and quirky show is gone.
I wouldn’t tie Leno’s better ratings to Sing Off. I’ve watched this week and feel like he is finally hitting his stride and producing much better episodes with bigger guests just like the Tonight Show hey day. I expect his ratings to stabilize around 1.8 to 2.0 each night even against new episodes.
OK..so the Sing Off (as a lead-in) gives Leno a 1.6 demo instead of its usual 1.4. Not exactly a earth-shattering!
I’m with Spike. Eastwick is a terrific show! It’s been gathering steam like a locomotive since episode 5. If ABC had promoted it and found a better time slot for it, it would be the new hit of the season. And why should they continue to promote it? I still see commercials during that show so apparently ABC is still selling advertising time for it. Don’t those sponsors want their commercials seen? ABC deserves to be in the ratings toilet if this is how they handle their product.
