After a sluggish start in its premiere where Jersey Shore pulled in an average of 1.375 million, last week it grew to over 2.1 million and a .8 1.1 rating with adults 18-49.
Last night it surged again climbing to nearly 2.5 million (2.481 million) viewers. But its increases with adults 18-49 were even bigger, climbing to a 1.4 rating, a 75 27 percent increase over last week. It also did well with women 18-34 with a 2.2 rating in that demographic.

This show is an interesting study in anthropology.
This show is pure entertainment gold.
Well that’s embarrassing….for America.
This is gonna keep climbing and climbing.
I forget who once said that “any publicity is good publicity” even a sucker punch to the face replayed ad nauseum on almost every entertainment gossip show.
I hate reality shows but I can’t wait for thursday nights to see what’s going to happen next on the shore. Very addictive show
This show is great, and the cast is oddly charming in a fist-pumping, “hair gel over brain cells” kinda way.
“Last night it surged again climbing to nearly 5 million viewers and nearly 2.5 million (2.481 million) viewers.”
?
? indeed!
Runaway cut and paste (in addition to other) problems….
This show will bomb eventually just like “The Gotti’s” did. There is only so much of this Guido Italian stuff people can take; things will start to seem very redundant soon.
It’s no surprise ratings went up; everyone saw the sucker punch video on the internet as well as the protests over the show. I think people are fascinated just to see what the fuss is all about; then they will start to turn away.
Is this now MTV’s highest rated show?
Matt, with 2.5 million viewers it is the biggest thing MTV has on the network right now.
Last week their top show was Teen Mom which averaged 2.129 million viewers in its top airing.
Can I point out how sad and pathetic it is that a show that is a complete waste of time and has no originality and no great emotional drama is what sells? And other shows like Dollhouse don’t get nearly enough respect? Say what you will about Dollhouse, but it doesn’t get nearly as bad as the stuff MTV and VH1 put on. And I am including the episode where Echo was the background singer/bodyguard in this discussion.
Just wanted to say that it’s a rather sad commentary on what most Americans like to watch.
It’s because last night was the episode with The Punch…. even though they ultimately didn’t even show it.
And next week features the aftermath of The Punch, so it’ll be interesting to see if everyone tuned in just to (not) see Snooki get hit or if they’ll all stick around.
Um this show here is unwatchable, I rather watch some crazy bitches on Bad Girls Club. That’s more entertaining. Jersey Shore is one of the worst reality shows I’ve seen yet.
Hopefully this reality genre dies out very fast and the Western or Variety genre makes a comeback in its place.
They added more pasta fazul to this weeks ep….i think that helped as well.
As a reality show producer myself I have to say Jersey Shore is a heck of a lot more entertaining and real that rubbish like The Hills and The City.
I’m pleased it’s doing well
These guys have been all over the late night talk shows and entertainment magazine shows so no wonder the ratings are up. They’ve been getting the red carpet treatment for some reason. Guess they have good P.R. people?
Jon, I watch both Jersey Shore AND Dollhouse, and the former is a lot more consistently entertaining than the latter.
“reality shows” pls.. all scripted now. Mr Richie stop being a fool.
