@Edward: what Tom said. If CSI was pulling 9M, they’d be singing the ‘cancellation song’ at CBS. CSI cast members come and go and some get killed off and It still pulls great numbers. And what’s up with the “old people” comment? With overall TV revenues declining the last few years, TV needs every viewer it can get.

Really awful ABC repeat numbers, they should have gone with Christmas specials or repeats of those. Seeing those numbers, makes the repeats of The Middle, Modern Family and Cougar Town quite okay, of course not as amazing as CBS repeats, but still fine given that they are just new shows with few eps and how ABC is over all performs bad in repeats

I will take 16 Million people anyday over 9 million people.

I dont care who is watching young, old, babies whatever, demo numbers do not interest me and I find conversations that constantly talk about demo numbers dull, boring and unimaginative.

I actually though that last nights CSI was one of the best episodes they have ever aired. Many must have agreed because the ratings were up compared to previous episodes this season.

The show will never be the same without Gil Grissom but its still a great show.

@USAmerica1st: Nobody called CBS a Crappy Business Scheme. We’re talking about the quality of its programming. And FYI, FOX seems to win every week in the 18-34 demo and 18-49 demo Why is this? Better programming. I give credit where credit is due… I hate FOX for what it did to Futurama and other shows but I’ve moved on. Shows like Glee, Fringe, Dollhouse show at least a willingness to give new things a try (even if you don’t like them).

But CBS seems to think that they can just make copies of their shows and use their large viewership to pretty much fuel all the clones by holding you hostage. CBS may be on top now, but it can’t last. Either people wake up, people die off, or people grow up, but CBS can’t live forever like this… and they will meet a fate similar to NBC eventually. And I fear they won’t have a replacement formula for some time when it does happen.

But the numbers don’t lie, it takes 16 million people to give csi a 3.5 rating. The office gets a 4.0 with 9 million. Can you say: OLD PEOPLE?

Does CBS #’s being the same against originals mean, they don’t share much of the same audience?
I guess with DVR, Online, DVD and no real urge to have to watch episodes.
Except Survivor it was the 2nd last episode, so alittle surprised with that.

Frick/John I agree! There is such a thing as too much of something! But it’ll probably hold its audience when it comes back, we’ll have to wait and see! Each of the 10 origianl epsiodes has already been aired at least 3 times in the past 3 months, I think! Just because it’s doing well doesnt mean they need to keep trying to ram it down our throats!

You can decode the “CBS” acronym anyway you want, it still did a 1,2,3 ‘body slam’ on everything in sight and in every way possible last night. Apparently, most people tuned in to CBS and never touched the remote again for 3 hours. Impressive.

Right on, I totally agree with Alison. The Mentalist is a fabulous series and Simon Baker well deserved the Golden Globe and the SAG nominations for BEST DRAMATIC ACTOR!

I was surprised however that Simon Baker was the only male actor in the dramatic category to be nominated from the three major TV networks for these awards.

Yay for The Mentalist! Another fab episode last night and a fab episode the week before. The show keeps getting better and better!

Simon Baker is a fantastic actor and thoroughly deserves his Golden Globe and SAG nominations.

And for ‘Master Moron’ wanting a sex scene with Rigsby and Van Pelt – you missed it – it was in Episode 8 (His Red Right Hand).

Isn’t the 1.5 Leno did last night what Zucker said it would do especially against a repeat at least on ABC? The jury is still out as to whether the experiment will last a second season, but if it’s making $$ I doubt Comcast will care to change ot when it takes over.

There’s a difference between “stating how you feel” and trolling. Since there’s ZERO justification used in your statement against Bones – and the fact that you say the EXACT sentence every week – put you in the troll category.

How will the “Leno Ragers” twist around the fact that his numbers are edging up? Gee, I don’t know, how did you Leno Lovers twist it around when he was getting crap ratings (and really, he’s still getting pretty much the same numbers he did on The Tonight Show).

The only reason he is getting (slightly) better ratings now is because he has moved traditional TS segments like “Jaywalking” and “Headlines” earlier in the show. He’s basically recycling the same crap he’s always done- doesn’t say much for his talent/creativity. Why else would more people start watching after his ratings have been in the toilet for 3 months? He might as well call this The Tonight Show, Part II.

Actually, though, the media is somewhat responsible for his upswing too. They created so much BAD publicity for Leno and think they inadvertently created a “reverse” affect.

Frick/John, If CSI ratings stay the same (which is highly unlikely, most broadcast shows decline over time), it will be on the air forever.

Even if it declines at the same rate *relative* to the rest of the CBS line up it’s probably still around for a very long time.

Bones was a repeat and it did ok, dont watch if you dont like! Oh and how can one justify dumping shows that get 15 to 16 million viewers? I dont watch any of these shows but there are alot of people out there who do and aparently enjoy them since they keep coming back week after week!

Tom- Gilly is a HORRIBLE character that Kristen Wiig (who I sometimes quite like, especially in Knocked Up) plays. Appearance-wise, think of Mary Catherine Gallagher style with a fro.

It SHOULD have been a one-off sketch (done once and forgotten); but since in the past few years, SNL doesn’t know what constitutes a one-off character versus one deserving recurring status, it has been done a bunch of times.

I kind of feel bad for Kristen. Like when Amy Poehler was on SNL, the show relies WAY too heavily on her as the main character; when both of them are MUCH stronger as the supporting cast.

In Christmas metaphors, SNL is Tiny Tim with Kristen as its crutch.

A) What the hell is a Gilly Christmas?

B) How ugly is it that it does, what, nearly 50% better than Community & Parks?

And I will continue to point out those new shows.. aren’t seeing major increases (hell, CBS was down) with nearly everyone else in repeats. People have largely settled on their programming for each hour by now.. which means that Leno repeats, even up against all repeats, will probably struggle to get .5 better than their average vs. new programming. Which is enough to be profitable, but it is hardly like Leno numbers will double or treble in early January/Summer.
