Can a cannon really be made out of bamboo, sulfur, charcoal and diamonds like the one Captain Kirk made on the Star Trek episode "Arena"?
Find out on Mythbusters Monday Dec. 28, at 9 p.m. on the Discovery Channel
Star Trek fans will definitely want to check out this video preview.

Mythbusters should never be *off* your DVR!
MacGyver says “yes it can”.
Captain Kirk channels MacGyver… apparently there was some time travel via a psychic connection involved with this particular adventure of Mythbusters!
Who cares? It was a TV show for crying out loud.
HA HA. They didn’t have the rights to Star Trek so they had to re-film the scene themselves.
JoCor, Mythbusters never springs for the rebroadcasts, and it’s rare they even do their own version (which I thought was hilarious). Usually it’s storyboards.
Well their canon out of a tree trunk was great fun so this is a must see.
Didn’t know about the tree trunk… although I did see the cannon made from duct tape. That was priceless
All I know is that when I grow up I want to be a Mythbuster! Best job in the world!
Bill,
They do occasionally show clips from movies and TV shows, especially on the movie myth specials. Off the top of my head I know I’ve seen clips from Jaws and Mission Impossible on Mythbusters. They don’t show extended scenes (maybe too much money), but 10-15 second clips aren’t uncommon.
Saruma: Add MacGyver to that list, just FYI.
The tree trunk cannon was AWESOME. I haven’t watched this show in a while, but I might tune in for this episode.
And I’m with you, Mike. Being a Mythbuster would be the most fun job ever.
The geekiness of the show is only enhanced by them doing a “re-enactment” rather than a rebroadcast.
Due to what I saw on their tree cannon episode, I think the Gorn cannon will be nothing other than a bomb. I would then expect them to simply reply a clip from their tree cannon episode to show how an all-”natural” cannon would have to be done.
Looks interesting!
Unless I grew up in a parallel dimension, it would be MacGyver channeling KIrk, not the other way around.
^Well, since Star Trek is set in the 23rd century and MacGyver was set in the 1980s, it would be Kirk channeling MacGyver.
