Of course, Sunday Night Football put NBC into the ratings winners circle on Sunday night, but a big NFL overrun into primetime made Fox a close second. While the finale of Survivor: Samoa couldn't keep up with Brett Favre, its ratings were even with last fall's finale.
The Survivor: Samoa finale delivered a 4.4 adults 18-49 rating which is even with its Fall 2008 finale on 12/14/08, and the special Survivor reunion show's 3.9 rating was up 3% from the same Fall '08 reunion show. 60 Minutes was below its season average. There was an NFL overrun on CBS in parts of the country as well.
NBC’s Sunday Night Football Game 15: Vikings vs. Panthers delivered a 5.6 adults 18-49 ratingfrom 830-11p, down from last week’s Game 14 (Eagles vs. Giants) which posted a 7.0 rating in the Fast Nationals before rising to a 7.8 rating from 8:31-11:51p in the Finals.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Looks like FOXs entire animated comedy block will fall in the finals.
Why do you say that, John? The Simpsons repeat may, but there’s no NFL overrun by the time The Cleveland Show was on.
I do find it odd how Survivor’s ratings went DOWN from the 9:30 block to the 10pm block – the whole point of last night was to find out the winner, and that wasn’t revealed until 10pm…
Anonymous, it could have held steady or even improved, but a lot of people might have bailed as soon as the winner was announced, which was pretty much right at the top of the hour. 15 minute detail would be more telling, but sadly we do not have that.
I’m just wondering how much does football for for a younge audience. When I mean younger I mean 30 and under.
ABC movie didnt do too bad. averaged almost a 2.0, so thats better than what i would have predicted but I figured Survivor finale would do better than that.
NBC’s 18-49 ratings from 9-11 were a 5.7, and their 18-34 ratings were a 4.9, and their 12-34 ratings were a 4.2. So while older viewers were more likely to be watching football than younger viewers, younger viewers were still more likely to be watching football than anything else on broadcast last night, CBS’ 18-34 rating from 9-11 was only a 2.5.
Hey Robert,
Is there anyway that CBS would make some tweaking with their schedule and put SURVIVOR 20 as its post-superbowl slot instead of Undercover boss?….
Becauze i feel that CBS might change their mind…because they said Undercover Boss for right now to see the audience reaction…SO Any Chance of Changes?….
John, there’s a chance that an asteroid will strike Earth and wipe out all life between now and Super Bowl Sunday. Roughly the same chance I’d give for CBS changing its mind on the post game slot. But that’s just a guess.
NBC did a horrible job last year of promoting and airing “The Office” after superbowl and it drew one of the lowest viewrship….
I thought that CBS would learn some mistakes from NBC and make a smarter choice..I thought CBS would make a smarter choice…I feel that if CBS isn’t really interested in airing Superbowl and post-show, they should have given it up to other networks whom might have been really interested and really taken advantage and put a solid show….
Is the Blind leading the Blind?…
I didn’t know Family Guy and American Dad were new last night.
A repeat of The Simpsons (3.8) beat a new episode from last week (3.2). That’s what football can do.
Family Guy wasn’t new last night – I don’t think American Dad.
“I didn’t know Family Guy and American Dad were new last night.”
They were repeats.
None of Fox’s animated shows were new, my error in leaving off the (repeat) labels for the last 3 shows. Now fixed.
Dennis that 3.8 rating for the Simpsons is also very subject to revision because of the football overrun. It’s likely to fall when the final ratings are announced.
John, what in the world are you talking about? Because you don’t like CBS’s post-Super Bowl choice you think CBS isn’t interested in the Super Bowl or post-SB? Seriously?
Regarding Survivor — Russell should have won.

Survivor can still get the numbers. I think Russell should’ve won too but the best player rarely wins.
CBS Wins Week 13 in Every Measure
———————————
CBS triumphed handsomely in Week 13, winning every Nielsen measure, while NBC and FOX duked it out for a second place tie (though the football finals for both nets will probably break the tie when released). ABC eked out a narrow fourth place advantage over Univision, and The CW had an OK week with their ‘Vampire Diaries’ encore marathon.

I felt like bailing when the winner of Survivor was announced. One of the worst “winners” ever, while the best player was snubbed.
