Sanctuary Ratings For December 11 & 18: There Is No Conspiracy!

I've gotten a few e-mails and seen blog comments about the lack of availability for Sanctuary Nielsen ratings the last couple of weeks where it sounds like some people are thinking there is a conspiracy to prevent their release!  But this won't make Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory (1.301 million average viewers last Wednesday December 16 at 10pm) because there is no conspiracy.

The "shadow people' have not come to steal the Sanctuary ratings and Bigfoot didn't eat them for dinner.

And Syfy didn't pay Nielsen off to hide the ratings and isn't e-mailing us with messages like, "Please don't post the ratings for Sanctuary and we promise we'll send you an early screener of Sharktopus!"

So you can take off your tinfoil hats now and stop looking over your shoulders:

On December 11 at 10pm Sanctuary averaged 1.363 million and a 0.4 adults 18-49 rating and on December 18 at 10pm it averaged 1.376 million and a 0.4 rating with adults 18-49

Though @TravisYanan is generally a great source for broadcast and cable ratings he posts on Marc Berman's PI Forums, he didn't post the numbers the last couple of weeks.  I'm pretty sure Syfy didn't bribe him with a Sharktopus screener either, I'd chalk it up to Travis having a real job that sometimes gets in the way of his ratings junkie lifestyle and it being the holidays.  Update Travis says that the reason is that he never received cable  finals for 12/11 and on 12/18 he glanced at the results and it didn't look like there was any original programming for the night.

But if you follow our weekly cable top 25 posts,  Travis' ratings junkie brother from another mother, @TVBill posted Sanctuary numbers for both weeks in the comments of those posts.

  1. LOL… thank god. The tin foil was ruining my hair!

    Thanks for the numbers Robert.

  2. They need to bring back Emilie – that’s the only conspiracy about Sanctuary I’m irritated about.

  3. D.B.Wells

Oh, You know how long it took me to make my hat? Three different types of aluminum, three,( in case one or two of them has been infiltrated)

  4. Empire

I’m with you Richard they need to bring back Emilie, while i still love the show somethings been missing since Ashley was killed/disappeared, not as edgier I suppose. Still a great show though, does well with DVR, hopefully more people will try and check it out

  5. Do you have ratings for Outer Space Astronauts? It would be sad if it did better than Sanctuary.

  6. JoJo Dog

I doubt they will give you the ratings for Outer Space Astronauts since they have the “midnight showing of Raven” Rule that they enforce very strongly here.

  7. JoJo, if that was true, nobody would ever see Sanctuary ratings, the above numbers included. The *difference* between Raven and Sanctuary was greater than the number of viewers for Outer Space Astronauts.

  8. Tim Miller

    Dang,
I wanted to meet Jesse. There goes my shot.
I’m bald so I had no problem with the tin foil. Besides it fits neatly inside my ball cap.

  9. Sylvia Knowles

travisyanan tweeted last week that he never received the cable ratings for the 11th

  10. Tim Miller

The truth is that what SyFy does is important to only a select group of people.
Check out Bill’s article on TVBTN’s
USA Tops Primetime Cable Viewership; ESPN Wins 18-49 Demo.
SyFy is no where near the top of the list.
The only conspiracy is the lack of interest.

I like this show, but it defintely suffers from stories that are bigger than the self-contained format from week to week.

  12. Jimmy

I have to agree with what others have said, the death of Ashley was a mistake. It was obvious during the first season they were having trouble developing the character but what happened to Ashley at the end of season one and the beginning of the season two actually made the character more interesting. It’s a shame they chose to jettison the Cabal storyline so quickly.

As much as I enjoy Sanctuary, and Amanda tapping, this series isn’t a must-see for me anymore. Sure, I DVR every new episode, but it’s sometimes a week or more before I actually watch the episode.

Thanks for posting the numbers. There’s an active fan base for the show, and we are really interested to know how it is doing. Seems to me that it is holding steady on its own (not following SGU) and that is good news. These numbers seem to meet Syfy’s expectations so I’m a happy camper. Been renewed, 20 eps, so looks like the show has found a good niche.

  14. Outlander

It’s a pretty good show, and more importantly, it was put together on a shoe string budget. The entire first season was filmed in front of a green screen, and the “webisodes” on which the first season was based were apparently funded in part by Tapping herself…

I’m not unhappy with the show at all!

  15. Man, I wish I *had* gotten a Sharktopus screener…

  16. TVBill

LOL — thanks for the laugh, Robert! This post was the funniest thing I’ve seen all week! :-D

  17. Kyle B

Darn it…why did I superglue me tinfoil hat to my head?! Call the team at NBC’s Trauma stat! Or maybe Three Rivers…They can perform a scalp transplant! :D
Many thanks for providing the numbers..I have Travis’ twitter page bookmarked and have been checking for them, but when they never materialized 2 weeks in a row, it did seem strange.
Looks like it’s performing as well as it did when Stargate Universe was leading into it, and the Micheal Shanks guest shot (2 weeks ago) didn’t light any fires under it.
