L'Osservatore Romano [the Vatican newspaper] on Tuesday congratulated the [Simpsons] on its 20th anniversary, praising its philosophical leanings as well as its stinging and often irreverent take on religion.

Without Homer Simpson and the other yellow-skinned characters "many today wouldn't know how to laugh," said the article titled "Aristotle's Virtues and Homer's Doughnut."

  1. Joss's Biggest Fan

If only the Pope had taken a position on Dollhouse, a different fate might have been at hand! I mean, sure, Joss is an atheist, but the Pope can look past that part, right?!

Dollhouse forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever!

  2. Seb

You know, you could get a Dollhouse on eBay. Customize a few barbie dolls to look like the Dollhouse characters and then play Dolhouse all day long. Dollhouse would never end!

  3. AtCat

Oddly enough they praise the Simpsons and have said critical things towards Family Guy. Wonder why?

  4. OK, if the Pope reckons Homer is OK, then there is hope for all of us anti everything, neighbour bashing, car speeding, excessive alcohol drinking, TV lovin’ tardy time keepin’, lazy layabout, food gorgin’, child abusers out here in the real world

Did I miss anybody? Please feel free to insert those slovenly layabouts I missed. No offence intended

  5. TSA

I don’t know, I always pegged the Pope as more of a HOUSE fan.

  6. I wonder if Family Guy is going to get the same recognition!

  7. Caio

AtCat, The Simpsons humor is much less ofensive than Family Guy’s. I mean, there’s a gay character in Family Guy, for God’s Sake!

Also, eventhough The Simpsons can be ofensive sometimes, they always end with a moral, while Family Guy’s does jokes just because they’re funny.

  8. Ren

Caio, are you serious? Oh no a gay character!! Wow it’s so offensive!! Please….have we already forgotten about Smithers and his homo erotic fantasies?

  9. Seb

Aren’t a reasonible number of Priests gay? from a quick google: http://www.trosch.org/ant/gay_priests.html So they can’t really be that offended by it can they?

  10. tom

isn’t selma a lesbian? or is it patty? i always get them mixed up. woo hoo! now we know homer is going to heaven.

  11. Derrick

Family Guy does have problem, they racial joke have gone from funny to just plain offenive. it has gotton to the point that it is just no longer funny at all

but the Simpsons will always be funny and tasteful

  12. Verus

Well Simpson has become as safe to watch as the Cosby show ;)

  13. Raymond

I think you guys are missing the point that the Pope is not saying that the Simpsons are okay, I mean he thinks condoms makes HIV worse, it is the Vatican newspaper who think that they’re good!

  14. RafeDaniels

It’s highly unlikely that the Vatican will be praising “Family Guy” or Mr. Mcfarland anytime soon. Anyone who watched the last “American Dad” re: The Rapture would know that this is not the way to get the Popes approval, However I thought it was hilarious.

  15. Caio

I was being sarcastic. I am gay myself
