wow. AO Scott and Michael Phillips suck. Minority Report was awful.
I can understand both of their #1, but the rest of their lists? Ew…
United 93 is the only one on the list I have seen, and it was a very sad, but well done movie. I’m sure Wall-E and Ratatouille belong on the list too, though I have yet to see them.
I’ll vouch for Ratatouille. I still haven’t gotten around to Wall-E yet.
I’m a big Pixar fan, but I hated Ratatouille.
If that’s their idea of the “best of the decade” then I’m glad I didn’t go to the movies much.
ratatouille deserves to be on the list.
no no country for old men?
Zodica was awful
Inglorious Basterds
500 Days of Summer
Moulin Rouge
Children of Men
Blindness
Butterfly Effect
Crash
Finding Nemo
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Superbad
Wow, what a couple of bad lists.
I really liked “There will be blood”, while Zodiac, Minority report, Brokeback Mountain and Million Dollar baby were good movies but I do not think that I would have put them on my Top 10 movies of the decade.
Of course I put more faith in the rotten tomato than any individual film critic.
Brokeback and Once deserve it. They’re awesome.
Far too few non-English language movies for the lists to be taken seriously. I know I sound like a snob but it is the truth.
The two lists in general lends less credibility.
I haven’t seen Wall-E or Ratatouille but most who have seen both like them.
I’m fond of several movies on the list such as the taunt 25th Hour, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Pianist but I don’t see it with, A.I. or Minority Report? I mean really-the best of the decade? To each their own…
I also agree with Bob, “No Country for Old Men?”
What? No ‘Gladiator’, ‘A Beautiful Mind’ or even ‘Sideways’? If I were to pick one from the list, it would be ‘The Pianist’.
i’m sorry but at the movies has no business putting out lists or otherwise broadcasting. if it aint siskel, ebert, or roeper, then it aint legit.
I think that A.O. Scott is right on the top film of the decade. The story is amazing and the graphics are truly incredible. The thing that mostly amazes me is that the 2 main characters (WALL-E and EVE) don’t talk! I also think that Finding Nemo, another Pixar film, should have ended up on the list.
I love Ratatouille especially the last part with the voice over of the food critic, what he said was very poignant.
Wall E is also good, I love how Pixar told the story with nary a dialogue and with no “true” villain. I also consider both Ratatouille and Wall E as Pixar’s best.
Great to see citations for ONCE and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND as they are my favorite too this decade
“Where The Wild Things Are”??? You’ve got to be kidding me. I don’t think the reviewer saw that movie or got paid off by its producers to boost its DVD sales. Or “A.I.”. It too was a bad movie.
As for the other reviewer, he wasn’t much better. “Minority Report”??? Really??? Come on. It was HORRIBLE. Aside from turning the novel on its head, it was just a horrible movie. Now while Ratatouille was a good movie, it wouldn’t make my best list.
Here’s my Best of the Decade list:
10. Sin City (2005)
9. Crank (2006)
8. The Bourne Identity (2002)
7. Spiderman 2 (2004)
6. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
5. V for Vendetta (2005)
4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
3. The Dark Knight (2008)
2. The Incredibles (2004)
1. Unbreakable (2000)
This is why I rarely watch any new movies these days.
I’m surprised that none of all the hugely promoted movies didn’t make ti there eg
Harry Potter franchise
Lord of the Rings franchise
PoTC franchise
Finding Nemo
Some of the movies I like that came out this decade:
(in no order)
Treasure Planet
Avatar
Ice Age
Reign Over Me
Brick
