According to a Christmas Eve tweet from Aaron McGruder, new episodes of The Boondocks are in production will return (presumably to Adult Swim) sometime within the next few months or so.   The last new episode aired on Adult Swim aired in February 2008.

The show has a history of controversy, and two episodes from season two that were critical of BET never aired at all on Adult Swim though they did air in Canada and were included on the second season DVD.

I love the Boondocks and the episode they did on BET was extremely true.

this is a great show – one of the most inciteful and funny shows on tv. their episode on mlk jr day was landmark.

was just watching adult swim last night and noticed that with 295,000 (viewers I assume) boondocks was most watched show last saturday night. this week it was beat by a new episode of bleach, but only barely. any thoughts on ratings of repeats for the show bringing it back (vs. dvd possibly, ala family guy)?

You know, I was just gonna say the same thing.

So, two years after the show ended, it’s coming back! I don’t give a fig about this show, but it’s nice to see yet another example of a show coming back after such a long hiatus! So I still have hope for Dollhouse’s return, after all!

Fans of any show that has ever been cancelled prematurely: Remember this! Shows CAN come back! It may take YEARS of efforts on your part, but the effort will be worth it when the show returns! Yippi ki yi yay! Never forget!

Dollhouse forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever!

    and ever?

@Joss’s Biggest Fan – I don’t think the show was ever going to NOT come back… it just takes a very long time to produce, and McGruder has a case of “too much on his plate”-itis. (Kind of like Joss.) It was just a matter of time.

Still, I am so glad it’s back. I hear the scripts are awesome, and the animation is always top-notch.

Awesome News! I love the Boondocks. Now I just need to find those BET episodes.

killertv, Bleach is in reruns, as is the rest of Saturday night. Also, the ratings that Adult Swim shows on Sunday nights is only in the 18-34 age group, not total viewers.

chrisjozo, those two episodes are on DVD and iTunes.

I’m glad the show is coming back in March. Since its traditionally animated, it takes longer for the show to make new episodes. Although the wait was excruciating.

It reminds me of Californication. Wasn’t there a two year gap between season two and three?

That’s a great cartoon, everybody should watch it.

  11. It’s a racist cartoon like the comic strip was only with more action scenes in it.

Best adult animated cartoon I’ve ever seen in my life. This is such great news.

Boondocks was never cancelled, so don’t get so excited for the possibility of Dollhouse coming back for the same reasons. Out of Adult Swims original programing, it is one of the 3 highest rated (with Venture Bros and Metalocalypse). It was on hiatus for awhile but because production takes a long time on it. There was never any real doubt as to its return

he BET episodes are on youtube

but to be honest, so time the show does got to far, it plays into the stereotypes instead of showing how stupid they are,

SOMETIMES, Other times i love it because it show that the stereotypes are stupid and un founded
