ABC ANNOUNCES “LOST” THE FINAL SEASON SWEEPSTAKES

815 Winners Will Receive a “Lost” Message in a Bottle Which Includes

An Exclusive Sneak Peek at Never-Before-Seen Footage of the Final Season Premiere

“Lost” fans have an opportunity to win an exclusive sneak peek at never-before-seen footage of the season premiere of the sixth and final season of the critically acclaimed hit series. Contestants may enter the sweepstakes at http://lostthefinalseasonsweepstakes.com/.

Upon registration, each contestant must answer six questions about the show, and are then automatically entered to win one of 815 “messages in a bottle.” The 815 winners will receive a “Lost” bottle containing a USB port that resembles character Desmond Hume’s fail-safe key. The key contains a video with a sneak peek at this season’s premiere – which will be the first time anyone will have seen this footage – along with scenes of last season’s finale. All prizes will be delivered on Friday, January 29.

The premiere of the sixth and final season of “Lost,” a special all-night event, airs on Tuesday, February 2. A recap special will kick off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET, followed by the much anticipated two-hour premiere from 9:00-11:00 p.m., ET.

The series will then air in its regular time period – Tuesday nights from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET – beginning the following week, on February 9.

“Lost” stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Ken Leung as Miles, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Terry O’Quinn as Locke and Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana.

“Lost” was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Jean Higgins and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers. “Lost,” which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on September 22, 2004, is from ABC Studios.

  1. Lame contest is lame? You get a “USB port” with footage that will be exclusive for a whole four days?

  2. Me

lol. I still love LOST, even if the contest is lame. :)

  3. Ruthie

But just think, Julia! For FOUR WHOLE DAYS you can lord it over your Lostie buddies that you’ve seen portions of the premiere! Won’t they be jealous?

  4. Tommy

I’d like to have this just to have it as a collectible.

  5. That’s just it, Tommy. The only people who would care about this contest are the diehard fans, anyway, who would care about this sort of memorabilia. I’m not sure how this will be at all useful as a marketing tool, since the target audience for this contest will already know when and where to find the final season.

  6. Julia, c’mon. Relatively speaking, this promotion costs $0.00. I don’t think ABC is looking to massively promote Lost to a new audience in its final season.

This is more in the realm of “let’s do something fun that doesn’t cost anything”.

All of the ancillary Lost stuff for the last couple of years, including the video podcasts has been targeted at the existing fan base rather than new fans. I think that makes sense too since they could spend heavily and still have a hard time picking up new viewers for a massively serialized show entering its sixth season.

  7. Oh, I’m not saying it’s a horrible thing to do, I just don’t get it. The video stuff I understand more. A lot of shows do that sort of thing to drive web traffic, as far as I can tell. (NBC has deleted scenes for all their comedies every week online, that sort of thing.) But I’ve always thought contests, even if they cost nothing, are more for promotional purposes. Like the Chuck Me Out contest, while the prize is silly it at least is supposed to try to promote the show to a larger audience than just those who would want such a silly prize.

  8. I’m pretty sure this (Lost) contest is really just another advertising campaign meant to promote the season 5 DVDs but I’m more sure I won’t be able to get anybody at ABC to confirm my suspicions!

Contests may be for promotional purposes, but they are never really major promotions and almost always seem targeted at the die hards. The Chuck Me Out contest seems no different to me, the contest itself is targeted at the diehards who in turn, they hope will promote the show to the non-diehards. And though I may not know you well, I know you well enough to know you think it will make no difference whatsoever to the show’s ratings! :-)

How do you enter?? I looked all over that site and couldn’t find any link to enter the contest.

  10. Maybe the button on the lower right of the page that says “enter now”?

  11. David R 2

I think this is a cool contest, like Tommy said it would make a cool collectible. One that I would like.

The footage will be online an hour after delivery.
