A surprisingly strong Wild Hogs movie, plus the ageless Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve led ABC to the ratings win on New Year's Eve.
Happy New Year!

You can see TV ratings from other recent Overnight ratings reports here.
Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

i wounder how many viewers there were at 12 am… tahts probably a astronomical # because everyone watches the ball droop. prob over 50 mill americans watch the ball drop at midnight each new year
Strong #s for an ABC movie. Happy New Year everyone!
Better Off Ted is on tonight at 8:30 after the Rose Bowl. Praying for good #s!

Have a happy new year, everyone!
They’re already running the zamboni at Fenway.
Haha! Gee Adam Lambert fans, you really put a dent in that one!
evelyn27: let go of the hate… it’s a new year. start off being nice.
Congrats to ABC for a big win, but most importantly congrats to Dick Clark. The man can still pull in big ratings every-single year, so hats of to him and the entire ABc crew for last night. Well-done.
I agree Romo, NBC makes yet another boneheaded decision sending the talentless Carson Daly against legendary Dick Clark.
Also, I’m surprised no Community or Parks & Wreck fans have made any critical remarks about 30 Rock’s bad numbers last night. I expect some to come.
Why was Carson hosting for NBC? I mean there was no way they were gonna beat Dick Clark but that choice of host makes it seem like they wanted a 1.0…
@Peter Not all Parks and Rec / Community fans tend to moan and complain and mention other shows ratings. We just hope our shows do ok.
Carson Daly shows absolutely NO emotion while hosting his NYE show – I don’t understand why they just don’t get someone else…..
“Better Off Ted is on tonight at 8:30 after the Rose Bowl. Praying for good #s!” –Yes but on the west coast, BOT will not be airing after the game. It’ll be airing after local programming, so it’ll lose a huge chunk of potential viewers that one might think comes from after a game.
ABC’s “Dick Clark special” is Ryan Seacrest-hosted with a cameo by Clark.
bill, the washington post has a ratings story up about real world dc

Tonight at 8:00 on MyNetwork tv (ch.209 for comcast) tune in to check out WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Lets have good ratings. If your not a WWE fan i urge you to check out SmackDown tonight.
ron, thanks for the heads up.
Dont forget about Better Off Ted tonight!!
Here on the west coast, Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Eve didn’t air until 11:30 PM. Very surprised it aired at 10:00 PM for the rest of the nation.
I can’t believe no one has commented on Jennifer Lopus’s outfit..She might just as well been naked.. What an example for the teen aged fans standing there watching.. I though the lady used to have some “Class”. And they should have left Dick Clark at his Compound….
Jennifer “Lopus” was completely covered from the neck down. I don’t think you could even see the outline of nips or camel toe…good grief.
