Will Leno Rage (and The Jay Leno Show) continue into the 2010-11 Season? Probably!

Is Jay Leno gravel  for NBC to shovel into the potholes of its schedule?  That seems to be the case.

On the heels of a repeat episode of The Jay Leno Show which scored a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating and bested an original telecast of ABC's Eastwick,  Business Week has an interview with NBC president of primetime entertainment Angela Bromstad that gives some hints that Leno could  be back at 10pm next fall as well.

Leno’s one-hour show takes up five hours of the weeknight schedule, allowing Bromstad to focus on the remaining 10 hours from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., she said.

“We have so many holes that we have to essentially rebuild the schedule,” Bromstad said. “Not having the additional five hours has certainly relieved some of the pressure.”

    She is lying.

  2. That sure sounds to me like there’s more Jay Leno in the NBC schedule for 2010-11.

    And more Leno Rage too!

“Not having the additional five hours has certainly relieved some of the pressure.”

Until the rest of the schedule surpasses it, on premiere night? Has Jay built on the lead-in from any new episodes on any night? I’d be concerned with the fall-off. Well I guess if Fox can disregard 10pm then I can too. :-)

I was think NBC should put
    Monday
    8 law and order
    9 NEW show
    Tuesday
    8 The biggest loser
    Wednesday
    8 Americas got talent
    Thursday
    8 Got talent results
    9 Office
    30 30 rock

Not going to happen but will help ALITTLE with the ratings

    @Joe

A fall season of AGT will fail just as hard if not more than the fall edition of SYTYCD. AGT’s gonna stay a summer show.

There’s a rumor passing around that NBC’s pre-empting Leno the first week after the Olympics.

  6. Joe

I no but this really there only show that gets 15million viewers in the summer and SYTYCD gets 8-9million so it will do better than SYTYCD but not great
it’s an idea that probably will do better than Mercy and community and parks and rec

Sorry I do not no the ratings of AGT

PUT SVU BACK ON AT 10 ON TUESDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Jack

Bill, she is full of it and behind closed doors the rhetoric is very different. Leno is done.

Most likely Jay Leno Show continues into next season. Unless Comcast changes direction at NBC, Jay has a very expensive contract at least through next year. The show underperforms as compared to other programming in the time slot in previous years, but it is performing as expected. It would also very resource-intensive to premiere 5 hours of programmming at 10:00. It is probaly that JLS will be “phased out” perhaps in 2011-12 by having it on 3-4 days a week, then down to 2-3 later in the season as new programming is introduced. It seems to do well on Tuedays, so that will likely be the last night to go. Where Jay goes after that is anyone’s guess…

  10. Jack

Comcast will have no say in fall 2010 schedule. The Leno problem is far more severe than the ‘experts’ think. He has to go and NBC is going to pull the trigger.

  11. Jack, NBC doesn’t care about whatever piddly affiliate you work at. :-)

You WANTing Leno to go is not the same thing as it has to go or that it will go. Or, it would have been canceled at least 2 months ago!

  12. Jack

Robert, you ever consider that I don’t work at an affiliate and that I only said that to draw heat away from where I actually work? ;) Not that it matters what you believe or what I say since Leno will be gone and you will say that I was lucky again. By the way how is that Nick C working out for you?

  13. Jack, sarcasm (about your piddly affiliate). Whether Leno is gone next season or not, I won’t say anything about you. If he goes THIS season I will give you mad props. 0 percent chance that will happen. Enjoy your Leno rage!

    Rage on, ragers!

  14. Jack

I am surprised you are so confident about Leno staying. I also do not dislike him. I am only here to make another ‘prediction’ that you will say has little to no chance of happening that will happen. So pucker up lovely. I want my names in lights like you did to that faker Nick C. ;)

  15. Jack, I have no idea what you are talking about as far as Nick C. and don’t care. I never saw him as a be all/end all source (though some of our readers seem to). But yeah, when we were writing FOX was on the verge of canceling Dollhouse this season he was writing FOX was on the verge of picking it up!

On topic, I’m confident in Leno staying THIS season because I don’t see them scrambling to make changes this season that might give affiliates one good night a week (say TBL+SVU) and not make much of a dent in the other nights.

As for next season, I will not be at all surprised if Leno is there, but I will not be very surprised if he isn’t either.

  16. Jack

Robert, I apologize. I misunderstood your point. Leno will stay for the rest of this season. I thought you were saying he would be renewed.

  17. Jack, the post does suggest Leno’s return NEXT season, but in the comments above where I was specifically talking about this season, I was referring to this season… Also, I interpreted some of your comments to be referring to this season, when you weren’t, so we’re even :-)

  18. nemo

just wait till may and early june for the announcement. plus, leno said if he ask to be back on his late night stint, he will.

  19. Lydia

Once people sicken of Conan and realize their only alternative is Letterman, they
will turn to Jay@10 and late night TV will totter off into obscurity. Jay’s show is improving, he had two great interviews with people who usually are not interviewed — the musical performers on the show — specifically, Lady GaGa and Adam Lambert. He has new correspondents which show promise.

  20. mgbhighlander

I like Jay, and sometimes he has good guests (Adam Lambert), but that band of his and his tired format need to go. He needs to revamp his show to include more comedy. Include his guests in skits like Johnny used to do. That was always hilarious. If Jay makes it funny and people start talking about it the next day the ratings will go up quickly.
