I hope that, if they are not going to translate the family members to English, they respect the original name in the mother tongue of the characters: it was Catalan, so it makes no sense to name them in Spanish. There was no “Rodrigo Borgia”; he was Roderic de Borja, born in Xàtiva in 1431; no “Juan Borgia”; instead, he was Joan de Borja; and no “Francisco”; his name was Francesc. Spain didn’t exist at that time nor Spanish was spoken at the place where they were born and lived.

Oscar, if you ever watched The Tudors don’t expect the history to be respected on The Borgias. I love The Tudors but not for its historical “accuracy.”

Only say that Borja Dinasty is not an italian family, is a spanish family from Valencia(Gandía and Xàtiva). I hope that history does not misrepresent….

I love Jeremy Irons and the Borgias were certainly a fascinating family but it galls me that The Tudors will only be about Henry VIII and his wives. What a misnomer. There’s so much rich history to mine from that family, both before and after Henry. Bah.

There are enough scandals to keep interest up throughout 10 episodes. Jeremy Irons is perfect for the period and character. The series will be so successful, they’ll consider a Lucrezia spin-off.

Is this like the most notorious today or the ever? Because if they’re referring to “Ever” then the dynasty Genghis Khan had MUCH more notoriety.

I had to force myself to finish the first season of the Tudors. I really wanted to like it, but I got bored with it. I’ll probably tune into this for a tryout, though.
