Glee Renewed: Gets Early Season Two Renewal

FOX has officially renewed Glee for a second season.  Not that the renewal itself is any real surprise, the early renewal is a bit surprising, though FOX folks had been leaking that information to select press for a few days.

Glee has performed particularly well with young women, and its soundtracks have sold well.

When we see the full press release or any additional details, we'll post them.

Yay!!! This is for the haters who were so sure this show would flop!

  2. Kareem

I suspect this show is doing quite well with young men, too. Glad to hear it got renewed (big surprise there!)

Great news! Glee rocks!!! or pops…

  4. Tommy

Not surprised by this one bit.

Indeed. For shows that have premiered in the last 3 seasons, based solely on the last ep aired, Glee’s only behind Bang/Modern in terms of 18-49.

    ST’s have sold over a a million.

  6. Ren

    My life is complete. :)

But no it’s not doing that well with young men.

    Fall finale: 3.7/9 A18-49
    4.0/11 A18-34
    5.5/14 W18-34

I mean, it’s doing okay with young men, but simply outstanding with young women.
The disparity between genders is much greater than the disparity between ages (8% 18-49/18-34 vs. 38% A18-34/W18-34)…i.e. young/older women watch it more than young or older men.

    Love It!!
Quality and talent win out. I trust they have their Golden Globe speech prepared.

    Hurray!
Even thought I failed to notice this on my other comment lol

  11. yeah, not only did we post it before Digital Spy. We posted it TWICE before them! See also “Gleeks Rejoice!” ;-)

I think the early renewal is necessary because this show needs so much lead time to have episodes ready for Fall 2010. They have to get music rights, lay music tracks, rehearse dance numbers, and then actually film everything. I suspect they will have little more than a 2 or 3 week break in between the current filming of the Final 9 for this season and the start of the next cycle.

No surprise that it got an early renewal, FOX successfully build a merchandise on this show, it’s hugely popular in my country, we get new episodes just one or two days after the US airing, the soundtracks are also selling well here and I bet it’s the same for a lot of countries. They are earning a lot from here aside from ad revenue. And when it returns it is assured it will get good ratings (it airing post AI), so why wait for a later renewal when you can do it now :D

I’m really interested what they’re going to do with the second season because if any show screams “one season wonder,” it’s this one.

  15. tom

I just started watching the Show and Love it! The show is so fresh and different from the usual fare! The cast is so talented!

  16. Allen

I watched one episode and won’t watch it again. It is just targeting kids who have outgrown High School Musical.

  17. Ren

Allen, your kidding right? The only similarities Glee has with HSM is being at a high school and singing. At least they don’t just abruptly start singing out loud. Glee is amazing, you’re just not its target audience.
