NBC’s Quick Leno Move: “Inevitably and Irrefutably” Linked to Comcast Deal

We’re not the only ones who find NBC’s sudden removal of The Jay Leno Show from primetime to be related to the Comcast deal – specifically the increased political leverage at the local affiliates.

Despite Jeff Gaspin’s denials that the Comcast deal played any role in the decision, the Comcast deal playing a role seemed to be the only thing that made any sense in the timing of the announcements.

Our friend Chuck Ross at TV Week thinks Jeff Gaspin is kidding himself (and us) if he doesn’t think the timing of the announcement is “inevitably and irrefutably” linked to getting the Comcast deal approved.

“Timing is everything,” writes Ross. “And this is one of the few times in recent years that timing has given the advantage to the affiliates.
