Sunday's season four premiere of Big Love averaged 1.728 million viewers, up 49% from season three's premiere.  The show averaged a .8/2 ratings share with adults 18-49.  While well up over last year's premiere, it's doing nowhere near as well as HBO's True Blood.

Big Love's season four premiere also trails the season four finale of Showtime's Dexter (2.6 million viewers a series high) but, season four of Dexter premiered to only 1.5 million (a series high at the time).

I like Big Love too…but it is amazing the amount of hype that HBO shows gets given their small viewership #’s…

…actually, this fact tells you what Hollywood is all about…HBO uses its tremendous relative wealth to *buy* good press and critical hype…

HBO is different than the big 4. They rerun the hell out of their shows so the premiere numbers are only a fraction of the actual viewership. Big Love has also never been considered a ratings success an d any hype its received has been critical not ratings based.

Fantastic! Glad to see people are finally catching onto Big Love.

cas127… you can’t buy good press for crap shows. no matter how much you spend… it never works. people actually have to like the show.

the 1.73 will go up based on reruns, on demand, etc. it’s a surprisingly strong number but i’ve seen the show in the past and it can be addictive.

remember though that even a show that has 20 million viewers… is still NOT seen by 280 million people. it’s funny how worked up people get over these number when 90 percent of americans aren’t even watching this stuff. 300 million people… 7 mill watched chuck. oh yeah! 300 million people and 11 million saw lost. great! 300 million people and 2 million saw dexter. amazing.

    i find it funny sometimes.
