I don't watch American Idol, but they did a cool thing last night. They saved the last audition in Atlanta (and of last night's episode) for the energetic 62 year old that is "General" Larry Platt, who sang "Pants on the Ground" complete with break dancing.  Then they celebrated "Pants on the Ground!"

Though I don't watch the show, I heard enough about it to watch the video and like many people I imagine, I wondered why they'd saved the last audition of the show for someone who was ineligible.

It turns out Platt, who was shot in the eye as a child, attacked by K-9 dogs and suffered beatings, calls himself a "general of the civil rights" movement, so it seemed a fitting send-off to Atlanta.

I think it's kind of nice that Idol gave a forum to a man who got beaten during The Bloody Sunday march from Selma to Montgomery.   A forum at least in part to send the message "I got my ass beat so you could look like a fool with your pants on the ground!"   And a very big forum to send the message  at that.

Pants on the ground
Pants on the ground
Lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground
With the gold on your mouth
Hat turned side-ways
pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat lookin' like a fool
Walkin' downtown with yo pants on the ground,
Get it Up! Hey! Get your pants off the ground,
Lookin' like a fool,
Walkin', Talkin' with yo pants on the ground
Get it up! Hey!
Get your pants off the ground!
Lookin' like a fool with yo pants on the ground!

Lookin' like a fool with yo pants on the ground!

-"General" Larry Platt
