OMG! The CW Airs New Episodes After Being In Repeats Forever, How Will They Do?

Categories: Broadcast TV

The CW hasn't shown a new scripted show episode in a regular timeslot since the week ending December 13. Smallville, Supernatural and Vampire Diaries haven't aired a new episode since the week ending November 22.

After airing veritable tumbleweeds for so long, how well can CW's series premiere of Life Unexpected do tonight? How about One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural?

You'll be waiting even longer for the rest of CW's shows.

One Tree Hill has its loyal fanbase so it will do alright. Life Unexpected looks good but its airing on the CW. I think it could be a success but I could be wrong.

I would guess it premieres a 1.2 and 2.4 million viewers.

LOL…tumbleweed was pretty much what I was thinking too.

VD will likely do OK – although I think now that “Twilight” is out of the spotlight, the show might lose some momentum.

OTH/GG will likely be down (at least in the W18-34 demo)…not sure about Supernatural.

  3. Anonymous, Gossip Girl’s new episode return is still a long time off. More tumbleweeds!

Well since the CW are none for their super tactics that made the network so successful… *cough cough* I guess people they’ll just hope that people didn’t forget about the network yet…

Ha! I guess this picture is more appropriate then:

  6. I LOL’d at the fact that there is a domain named realtumbleweeds.com. ;)

That’s long tail right there, baby.

I love Supernatural but I would predict 2.3 mil. and 1.1 demo. It’s been off the air for way too long. On the other hand, the fact that it won a People’s Choice Award and it’s in syndication now might help… So, who knows.

  8. If Life Unexpected is like an old WB show, I honestly hope it gets decent ratings and actually survives a few seasons.

I think ‘Life Unexpected’ will debut bigger than ‘Gossip Girl’, something around a 1.5 A18-49 and 3,150,000 P2+ viewers.

If the ‘Life Unexpected’ numbers hold up and outperform ‘Gossip Girl’, The CW might be tempted to shift ‘Gossip Girl’ back to Wednesdays at 9 pm when it returns with new episodes.

FWIW I have seen three reviews today for Life Unexpected and ALL THREE REVIEWS say the show is GREAT!!!

i keep forgetting we have a 5th network

Supernatural, Smallville and Vampire Diaries have a committed teen fan base, so I think they’ll just fine.

Life UneXpected, meanwhile, is supposed to be a throwback to old WB shows like Everwood, which I loved, so I think if enough people give it a fair shake, it’ll do pretty well.

I don’t know about One Tree Hill, though. I know it’s been around for a while, and it has a decent fan base. But it’s over the hump. I think if any of the CW’s shows are on the bubble, this is it.

  13. Exactually where it ended, VD being their only high ratings with Supernatural and Smallville following.

They’d pretty much on anything better than on NBC right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Life Unexpected beats Chuck or Heroes.

Life UneXpected should debute big, OTH will be up a tiny bit, Vampire Diaries will continue to get big ratings for the CW, and Smallville will be back to slightly bigger #’s than before Christmas, have to remeber that the 2 or 3 Dollhouse fanboys will stick w/ it one last week till Smallville gets the big Dollhouse bump up

I keep forgeting we have a 5th network

    So very true

They’ve got major catching up to do this week, which I think could make this the make or break week for the network. Last week they averaged something like a 0.6 in households and 0.3 in 18-49. With those kinds of ratings, was CW even operating at a loss last week? And with such low exposure, will anybody even realize that CW is back to original airings this week or even care? Ever since CW came into being 3 years ago, it’s been steadily downhill in their numbers and it dumbfounds me that it’s still on the air when its WB-UPN parents faded with twice the ratings that their illegitimate by-product has been delivering this season. A viewer no-show in the coming weeks could finally very well spell its collapse. No loss. Save for Reaper, it never produced anything really worthwhile.

I expect it to have very soft ratings, but I would love it if it beat Heroes, I mean really love it.

  19. good grief

i think abc family will beat the cw from 8-10pm

  20. Don’t forget, Melrose and 90210 won’t be back till March either.
