NBC, keeping it low key doesn’t make you look any less stupid for getting rid of the guy who is killing it in the ratings. If they were smarter they would’ve let him drum up the controversy and keep him there, he’s been winning over new viewers and getting his old ones to watch all week. I hope Conan find an even more expensive bit tonight, teach these fools a lesson.
These ratings aren’t really THAT impressive, even if you ignore the fact that the numbers are inflated by the conflict going on. If memory serves, that’s about what Leno was averaging in the demos as Tonight Show host, but nowhere near the total viewership. Even with this controversy and with some unusually weak Nightline numbers, he can’t break out of last in the total viewers department.
What caused Ferguson to suddenly break out in viewers like that? Yet this also ended up being a week where he lost in the demos?
Late night numbers in general have been down since the strike. I feel that over the next few months we will see more shows canceled. Truth is, now that Conan’s gone and Leno is back to the same old Leno, viewers can and will check out other choices, they will see how bad the quality out there is and the numbers will plummet.
I see Jimmy Kimmel Live, for example, going off the air soon. He can’t hide beyond the excuse of “the other” established guys taking viewers away from him anymore. New people will watch his show and see it’s just not good.
I think when the dust settles, Letterman into Ferguson and Conan on Fox will be the sole survivors. The rest (Kimmel, Fallon, Lopez) are pretty pointless.
Is there any way to find historical ratings charts/graphs for all the late night shows?
I’m here to say I’m a big fan of Craig Ferguson. Funny dude. I like that he seems to be truly a bit insane.

Also, I can’t stand Jay Leno. In fact the entire NBC line-up now is horrendous. Leno, Fallon, & Daly? Jesus. Just horrible. Dumb people television.
