Nightline” BESTS “THE Tonight Show” FOR 30th CONSECUTIVE WEEK IN TOTAL VIEWERS

ABC News “Nightline” outperformed NBC’s “The Tonight Show” for the thirtieth consecutive week among Total Viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research for the week of January 11, 2010. This is the first time “Nightline” has beaten “The Tonight Show” among Total Viewers for thirty consecutive weeks since at least the 1991/92 season, which is as far as records date.

Last week “Nightline” aired extensive coverage of the earthquake in Haiti, a report from Bill Weir embedded with US soldiers from the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, and a follow-up to a “Nightline” investigation by Brian Ross on the acquittal of a UAE royal sheikh that prompted questions from US State Department officials after the report aired.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Martin Bashir. John Donvan and Vicki Mabrey are correspondents. James Goldston is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network.
