Hardly a surprise at this point, for anyone following the Renew/Cancel index, but CBS has renewed How I Met Your Mother for a sixth season.

Note, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory got multi-year renewals in their last pick-ups and are already renewed for the 2010-2011 season.

can’t believe it has already been six years

  2. Polar Bear

It hasn’t. By the end of the next season it will.

  3. Brynna

yay!!! Can’t believe just a few years ago this show was on the bubble!

  4. JPtheTVguy

All I can say is, it will be…

    wait for it…

    Legend…

…run and get your vintage glass milk bottles, because we’re all going on a field trip to the… DAIRY!!! :)

Good news, but I wish they’d make it “the Robin and Barney Show.” Ted is just a tool, and Lily and the man-child are getting a little bit tired. Still, happy to see another year of fun.

Yay, surprised with the early announcement I thought CBS will announce it on May . :D

  6. DuMont

    Completely deserved.

  7. good grief

hey producers please end this show in season 6 or 7, please go out on top, do not drag it out further

  8. Mega64

Obvious move, but still glad to see it confirmed.

Too bad CBS had to disappoint me with reruns tonight!

  9. Jeff

Yay! Love this show. I hope it keeps going till at least 8 seasons.

  10. Lurker

Let me guess, he’s really 72 and just adopted teenagers. He met his the mother two days earlier. ;)

  11. Craig

I’m disappointed that Rachel Bilson didn’t turn out to be the mother. It’ll be tough to top her.

But I’m glad the show has been renewed.

  12. Kyle

Please end the show next season!!! I still like the show but it’s getting a little too werid and stupid!!! I still find some of it funny but not as much as I used to!!!

  13. D

    Cool! Love the show.

I have a question. Why do networks do early renewal for some shows and they wait to till the end to renewal towards the end of the season for the others?? (EX: NCIS is a top performer and it’s always renewed late)

  14. Dan

So with this unsurprising renewal, the bubble comedies are

    Old Christine
    Gary Unmarried
    Accidentally on Purpose
    Rules of Engagement

  15. D

Holy crap. I just saw my question and man it stuck.LOL

Fixed *Why do networks do early renewals for some shows and they wait to till towards the end of the season for the others?? (EX: NCIS is a top performer and it’s always renewed late)*

    BETTER!

  16. D

*stunk.* Forgive me, I can’t type today. Ugh.

  17. D, for the obvious to be renewed shows, I’ve got to believe that the networks plan the announcements for maximum PR benefit (although lots are still clumped late in the spring, perhaps because the contract negotiations take extra time).

For shows on the bubble, the window between when the network makes up its mind, and when it has to reveal its entire fall schedule at its May upfront meeting can turn out to be pretty short.

  18. Jimmy

I like this show — a lot — but this series hasn’t been nearly as funny as seasons past and I’m getting to the point where I wish they would just move forward with the mother plot.

  19. RJ

HIMYM has gotten pretty boring lately. Just tell us the mother and end it already.

  20. Trent

Pretty boring lately? Episode 100, which aired 2 weeks ago, was one of the best of the entire series.
