THIS JUST IN... from CBS Entertainment... JENNIFER LOPEZ TO GUEST STAR IN AN EPISODE OF "How I Met Your Mother" TO BE BROADCAST THIS MARCH

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 - Jennifer Lopez will guest star in an episode of How I Met Your Mother to be broadcast this March on the CBS Television Network.

Lopez will play Anita Appleby, a no-nonsense author of self-help books that teach women how to train men into relationship machines through the power of denial.  When Robin tells Anita how Barney acts toward women, she makes it her mission to "break" him.

"We couldn't be more excited about Jennifer Lopez joining us on How I Met Your Mother," says Executive Producer and Co-Creator Carter Bays.  "We're looking forward to a week of revealing outfits and sexy dance moves the likes of which this show hasn't seen since Regis Philbin guest starred."

How I Met Your Mother - a comedy about Ted and how he fell in love, all with the help of his friends as they try to navigate life, love and becoming adults in New York City - stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders.  Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Pamela Fryman are executive producers for Twentieth Century Fox Television.

How I Met Your Mother is broadcast Mondays (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Since she’s making an appearance on Glee as well, makes me wonder if this was a bargaining chip for them to release Neil Patrick Harris to guest star on Glee.

Oh how I love conspiracy theories! :-P

  2. John

    I can’t wait! :)

  3. Jaymii

Wow, you never hear about her for year then she’s doing both Glee and HIMYM. What a travesty!

This stuntcasting is ridiculous. Britney Spears, Stacy Keibler, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood.

I don’t watch the show but I heard CC Sabathia and Nick Swisher were on an episode too.

I alwsys laugh at Bays’ and Thomas’ interviews saying how fresh and original this show is. Give me a break.

don’t forget Kim Kardashian, Heidi, Spencer *puke*

So you dont watch the show but its ridiculous for them to have stuntcasting on the show. Maybe I should send you a copy of my financial books and you can criticize how I operate my business

“This stuntcasting is ridiculous. Britney Spears, Stacy Keibler, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood.”

In response to this, as a fan of the show, the stuntcasting has never affected the storytelling in a negative way. Honestly, if it’s bringing in new viewers to see one of the best comedies on television, then more power to them. Also, “Friends” did this kind of casting for years, and I don’t remember people saying the show wasn’t fresh or complaining about it. I think the producers of “HIMYM” have found a way to incorporate these big stars into the comedy and keep the main storyline fresh and interesting. I’m still in love with this show.

When was Carrie Underwood ever on the show?

  9. @CP – Carrie underwood is meant to be in the next new episode of HIMYM.

As for “stunt casting”, I had doubts about Britney Spears being in HIMYM so soon after her “family issues” but she was really good as Abby for that 3rd season arc she had.

Stacy Keibler was a one-off for the 100th show because they needed someone very hot for Barney to hit on, and whether or not you like wrestling, Ms Keibler is very hot.

On to J-Lo… I have the same reservations as for Britney but J-Lo has more acting experience than Britney, so I’m sure she’ll be fine as a one-off. It’s not like NPH didn’t carry Britney or Stacy is it?

What’ll be interesting though is to see if (a) CBS promote it, like they did for Britney and (b) if there’s any ratings spike when the numbers are in.

The writing and creativity on this show is as good as it gets in sitcoms. Well, except for Seinfeld. And maybe Modern Family. But it’s damn good.

  11. BrandonK

I enjoyed Britney’s appearances — but she had a mini story arc. These other people are just popping in to episodes… much like with how they did the stunt casting on Friends.

It seems like all of these women are a distraction from the real mother. The series has made it clear that we wont know her identity until the final episode. I think the 6th season should be the end for HIMYM. The series seems to have a beginning, middle, and end so I think now that were really close to finding the identity (with the 100th ep), next season should wrap the series up.

  13. Jeff

Am I the only person who has figured out, long ago, that Mom will turn out to be “The Slutty Pumpkin”?

  14. Zippy

Pretty much everyone I know has thought it would be the slutty pumpkin (and perhaps she dies after the kids are born and Ted eventually marries Robin). But that was some time ago when people actually cared. That story gimmick has about run its course. Time to just introduce the woman and let the show go on with that relationship developing.

Still wonder if they’ll need to use a wide lens to film JLo

The appearance of Kim Kardashian, Heidi, and Spencer were actually on small doses and their “story” was actually mocking them so it did not bother me.

Britney Spears guest appearance came in at the time when HIMYM was a “bubble show” and she was not really distracting because Sarah Chalke was the main guest (and it was a good episode that featured the 2 minute date)
