ABC has offered Abdul a $1,000,000 development deal, with one catch -- she has to appear on "DWTS," sources tell TMZ. [...]
Paula has to make a quick decision -- we're told the ABC offer is contingent on Paula doing "DWTS" this season, which starts in March.

She should grab it–what else is there?
Sounds like ABC realized how badly DWTS has declined in the ratings (especially the results show)!
I’d go with the X Factor….
She should do it. The report states that she can do Simon’s new show in addition to her duties at ABC. By developing her own shows, she will be able to reach the status she seems to want, and appearing on DWTS will help keep her in the public eye until the new show starts. It would also be good for DWTS, which she is a big fan of. Based on the info available, it seems like a really great op. Plus, if the new show flops, she has a back up.
If she’s also able to do The X Factor then of course she should jump on it! But it seems weird that ABC would offer her this lucrative deal and allow her to work for the competition.
She should take it. What role would she play on DWTS, though?
Lucky, Christian:
I’m not sure what Paula thinks, but I’m pretty sure for ABC the development deal is just a convenience. All that stuff sounds nice but what this really amounts to is “We’ll pay you $1 million to do DWTS”
ABC isn’t worried about Paula being on X-Factor or worried about what she might develop for them. They are worried, as they should be, about reinvigorating the DWTS franchise.
I don’t think DWTS is in any immediate trouble. The demo may be down, but ain’t no way at this point it would get rid of a show that pulls 15-17 million viewers/week (not talking of the results show).
It sort of goes against the whole idea of “amateurs” being on the show if Paula Abdul, a professional dancer and choreographer, is involved.
Of course, I guess they could say her prescription drugs will handicap her, lol.
As I noted, that would be good for DWTS. Besides that, her DWTS run would be over well before the X-Factor show starts in 2011, so there isn’t even a competing network issue. Other companies produce for multiple outlets all the time. Obviously DWTS is the main attraction for ABC, but I believe that Paula is interested in pitching her own concepts, knows that owning a piece of the show brings in the cash and if she does have something good, ABC would likely not pass it and all of her media attention up.
Of course, DWTS is in no danger of being canceled, but its ratings last fall fell substantially, and it certainly is in danger of continuing to fall. And ratings = revenue. For a 3 hour a week franchise like DWTS, $1 million is peanuts to spend to have a chance to boost its ratings.
or that she is a hip hop dancer and no ball room experience- Most of the dances are ball room and I dont thin she is trained in that-
also x factor only come on air 2011, so she could do dwts this year no problem
Actually, $1 million doesn’t seem like that much to me. Unless this is coupled with a huge fee for appearing on DWTS, would that amount really sway her? She turned down many times that much to go back to American Idol, and that didn’t entail her getting into dancing shape and having to compete for weeks on end.
Remember, for Paula, DWTS is a big personal risk – she never had much of a voice, the dancing is really what she’s made her rep on. Going on that show is putting her whole persona (goofy as it may be) on the line. But really, in a world where Simon Cowell is about to make $175 million for one season of X Factor, I don’t see $1 mil cutting it.
what a waste of money
Uhm isn’t she a professional dancer?
1 million is chump change IMO. I think she’ll goto Simon’s new show, The X Factor.
This picture is awesome! I think it really shows are inner soul.
Crap. Joke down the drain. Her inner soul.
Gawd she’s like a deflated airbag. Successful once. Now juse useless trash
Id do it for a season. Why not, its not like theres much else going on.
