This is definitely the last season of ABC's Ugly Betty.  Today, ABC and the production team made the following statement.  At least fans will get their closure!

"We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."

This is no surprise to anyone who has been following the ratings, but there was some question over whether ABC might want to squeeze additional episodes out of it for purposes of syndication. But, that question has now been answered.

Useless petition to save show in 3….2….1….

  2. Brad

    Yay for Castle!

  3. Brad

i.e. better shot of it getting a Renewal.

  4. Nerwen Aldarion

    Anyone here surprised? Anyone?

  6. Smallville #1 Fan

wow.. I’m really sorry to UGLY BETTY fans..!

  7. Ali

I think it’s about time it ends to be honest. Ending it on a high is way better than dragging it for far longer than it should and I am saying this as a big fan of the show.

  8. Zachary

Really Ugly? I figured Deep End woulda went before it..but hey..

  9. Tar

maybe they’ll move it back to friday and put Happy Town in its place after a few weeks?

  10. Rebecca

Please note Brad’s opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of all Castle fans.

  11. MC, normally this would inspire mocking along the lines of:

might the CW save Ugly Betty?
Ugly Bettyis a perfect fit for ABC Family
Why wouldn’t DirectTV save Ugly Betty?
Comcast needs a Friday Night Lights like Direct TV

But with the whole unified statement and closure, it sounds like the producers are ready to end it and aren’t looking to take it to another network.

  12. Brad

Maybe the early wrap up will meet Happy Town starts after its demise?

  13. Brad

Rebecaa, one less scripted, 1 hour drama means a better shot for Castle to get renewed.

  14. Nerwen Aldarion

I am sorry for Ugly Betty fans but they had to see the end coming, the ratings just weren’t there

Yay for Castle as it means its more likely for renewal. However i love Ugly Betty and it will be a real shame to see such a great series leaving us. :(

i’m in agreeance with ali. i adore the show and i’m okay with it leaving on such a creative surge. i know it still has the juice to go on another season or so, but at least the producers got enough time to write a series finale.

Not surprising, and not all that disappointing. While they are on a bit of an upswing now, the producers/writers completely biffed the previous two seasons. They were terrible. The good work now is kind of a day late and a dollar short.

But at least they have time to wrap things up. I do love the cast of this show and I hope they find new projects soon.

  18. Tar

they also reduced season 4 to 20 episodes

  19. Rebecca

I know, Brad. But its just bad karma to celebrate at another show’s demise.
