ABC FAMILY ANNOUNCES PICK-UP OF “MELISSA & JOEY”
Half-Hour Multi-Cam Comedy Stars Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence
Burbank, CA (Friday, January 29, 2010) – Paul Lee, president, ABC Family, today announced the pick-up of “Melissa & Joey.” The series has been given a 10-episode order and is scheduled to premiere in 2010.
“We love Melissa and Joey,” said Lee. “Melissa has a long history on the network, and she and Joey recently starred in the network’s original movie, ‘My Fake Fiancé,” which broke records for the network last year. They have fantastic chemistry and are just so relatable to our viewers. We knew we wanted to get them together again, and developed this comedy specifically with them in mind.”
“Melissa & Joey,” a half-hour multi-cam comedy with Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence executive producing and starring, finds Hart portraying Mel, the grown-up former wild child of a political family who is now a local politician herself. When her sister ends up in prison and brother-in-law flees after a scandal hits, Mel must take responsibility for her teenaged niece Lennox and pre-adolescent nephew Ryder. Spread too thin to manage by herself, help comes in the unlikely form of Joe (Lawrence) who, desperate for a job, moves in and becomes the family’s “manny.” David Kendall & Bob Young are executive producers and writers; Paula Hart also serves as executive producer.

YES! great news! I was excited right when I heard they ordered a pilot for it and I knew that it would get picked up ecause how could ABC Family pass a comedy with Melissa and Joey? lol
whoa
Looks interesting! I love MJH so I’m glad to see her in another sit-com. I’m glad this isn’t just a spin-off of their movie though, cuz I didn’t actually like it.
ehhh… sounds like Ruby & the Rockits 2… minus the singing…
ABC Family is the new The WB for me the shows they air and the pilots they have been picking up reminds me of the old school WB programming.
Isn’t this just a slight twist on “Who’s the Boss”?
Yeah, I get a “Who’s the Boss” vibe too.
It will be absolutely terrible.
Great to see Melissa Joan Hart back on TV. Too bad The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Lincoln Heights has been cancelled. Why do the Black shows keep getting the axe?
A very unsurprising pick up due to the success of their movie together and MJH’s other movies on the network. Good luck to it, I’ll check it out because I loved MJH back in the day.
Glad to hear that Melissa Joan Hart will be back on TV again but I hope the info about Lincoln Heights isn’t true. Lincoln Heights is one of the best black shows left on TV. It’s much better than the Ty;er Perry stuff. I’m already worried about Greek getting canceled so I don’t want to lose both.
Yeah, it’s derivative but MJH and JL were great together in My Fake Fiance so I hope it does well.
Anyone else think all of ABC Family’s recent new pickups mean Greek is pretty much done after this season?
Sara,
I think it may mean bad things for Greek too. Greek is by far my favorite ABC Family show, after the short lived Middleman, followed by Lincoln Heights. It wuld be said to see either or both of them go. I watch The Secret Life but I don’t enjoy it as much as those 3.
Greek will probably be axed
First The Middleman, then Greek
Sounds like a fun show…ABC should run it on network. It’d pair well with ‘The Middle’ on Mondays before or after DWTS, or as a foundation of a new ‘Friday Comedy Line-up’ much as was popular back in the 90′s with Full House,Family Matters(remeber ‘Steve Erkle’?), and Step by Step…young families at home, teen babysitters and children love those shows.Mellissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence also are favorites of the 18-34 demo who grew up on their shows.
I just read that Lincoln Heights is canceled. It’s sad but at least this bodes well for Greek!
@ohiogirl — that’s what I thought to. they should put it on ABC.
this will bomb, for sure.
This show would work good on ABC, not ABC family. It will bomb on there which is why I wont watch.
Greek still has a chance. If ABC Family likes how Greek performs on mondays at 10 pm. Then they will keep it. But I don’t see Greek being moved back to 8 or 9 o clock.
