Updated: Lost Premiere 18-49 Ratings Up ~10% Over Last Year

Update: Lost premieres up. My back of the envelope average of a 5.6 adults 18-49 rating from 9-11 would be a 10% increase over last season's 5.1 rating.

Here are the overnight adults 18-49 ratings for the half hours from "Travis Yanan":

8:00 – 4.0
8:30 – 4.2
9:00 – 5.7
9:30 – 5.6
10:00 – 5.4
10:30 – 5.6

Here is the original post information:

Note that these are preliminary household ratings from the 56 metered markets, not adults 18-49 ratings, but an increase of 22% in comparable household ratings from last season's premiere suggests a likely similar increase in other ratings metrics.

The regular overnight report will be posted when the numbers are available.

From Marc Berman's Daily Column:

In season-premiere news, two episodes of the final season of ABC’s Lost were on the map with a second-place finish in both the 9 p.m. (8.5/13) and 10 p.m. (7.9/13) hours. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:

Lost (ABC)
9:00 p.m.: 8.6/13 (#2)
9:30 p.m.: 8.3/12 (#2)
10:00 p.m.: 7.9/12 (#2)
10:30 p.m.: 7.8/13 (#2)

Compared to the two-hour year-ago season opener on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 (6.7/10 from 9-11 p.m.) this was an increase of a noticeable 22 percent. Based on this growth, you can anticipate in the vicinity of 14 million viewers and a 6-rating among adults 18-49 for the return of Lost. The fast affiliate results will, of course, be posted at PIFeedback by approximately 12 p.m. ET.

    Travis Yanan Reports 18-49:
    8:00 – 4.0
    8:30 – 4.2
    9:00 – 5.7
    9:30 – 5.6
    10:00 – 5.4
    10:30 – 5.6

    INCREDIBLE. 4.1 for a recap?

  4. Andre

What’s happening on the island is getting more and more confusing, in my opinion, but the flashforwards/backs/presents to the plane after it landed are holding me. The final episodes should be great.

  5. LOST is a beast!!!

  6. steven

    WOW at 18-49 data!

    @Tyler: “INCREDIBLE. 4.1 for a recap?”

I’m a longtime fan and even I can’t keep up. I think the recap, for many, was a necessity. ;)

  8. my first decent prediction (5.5) of the year, and apparently still a little too low!

  9. Ryan47

Not that a 7.8 is anything to sneeze at (um, WOW), but the steady drop from an 8.6 at the start of the episode to a 7.8 at the finish seems a bit odd, doesn’t it?

  10. 5.6 and 12.086 million viewers from 9p-11p

  11. Trey

    Awesome

  12. Ryan47

And yet the 18-49 rating didn’t move nearly as much, and actually rose again in the last half hour. Weird. Maybe I just don’t know enough about the numbers or something. And no, I don’t mean 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42.

  13. Ryan, old people turn off the tv and go to sleep, but looks like the younger viewers kept with it.

  14. xfool92

Loved the show, but waaaaay too many commercials. I will be DVRing next time because of it.

  15. Is a drop-off of less than 10% unusual for a two hour program ending at 11?

  16. Claxton Markoni

With these types of numbers, renewal is a lock for Lost!!!

  17. John the Mon

Lost was on for three hours last night? That’s pretty crazy, can’t imagine sitting through all that.

  18. Matt

    LOL at Claxton

  19. Bob

The first hour was a recap, then the two hour season premiere. Honestly, if it was 4 hours last night,I still would have watched it. It was that good.
