Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment Group, today announced the “Lost” series finale date, airing as a primetime event on a special night on Sunday, May 23 from 9:00-11:00 p.m., ET. Preceding the finale will be a recap special from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET.
“Lost is an example of what happens when you put creativity above everything else, trust the creative vision, and take the risks required to be truly original,” said McPherson. “It’s a testament to staying true to the creative vision of one of the most iconic shows ever on television, and we’re giving the producers an unprecedented opportunity to respect the fans and really satisfy the viewers with a spectacular conclusion.”
The critically acclaimed, hit drama premiered on September 22, 2004. The series was nominated for numerous awards and was a 2008 recipient of the prestigious Peabody Award, and awarded the 2005 Emmy and 2006 Golden Globe for Best Drama Series. At the end of its sixth and final season, “Lost” will have aired 114 episodes (121 episodic hours).
Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” after “Lost’s” season premiere on Tuesday, February 2 (12:05 a.m., ET) to discuss the upcoming season.
Oceanic Air flight 815 tore apart in mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island, leaving 48 passengers alive and stranded on a remote island in the South Pacific. The survivors include a diverse group of people from different walks of life -- a doctor, an escaped fugitive, a con man, an Iraqi interrogator, a married Korean couple and a man formerly confined to a wheelchair who is now inexplicably healed. As the castaways attempt to get home, flashbacks (and forwards) illuminate their troubled lives before and after the crash, as the island that they find themselves stranded on begins to slowly reveal its mysterious nature. Faith, reason, destiny and free will all clash as the island offers opportunities for both corruption and redemption... but as to its true purpose? That's the greatest mystery of all.

Why Sunday?
Not too shocking, given that Lost’s finale would have run up against the last AI performance episode, I believe. I’d get out of their way too!
Given that everything should be into repeats by then, just what kind of ratings numbers are we looking at? The Season 2 premiere + 10%?

So I suppose DH’s finale will be May 16th and Brothers and Sisters will be on May 9th (unless DH isn’t a two-hour finale like it usually is)
I *reeealy* hope that the Survivor finale isn’t on the same day. I mean, that would be just cruel. But if that were the case, I’d definitely have to watch LOST.

The idol final performance is always an hour so no clash there. It’s probably to make room for the Dancing with the Stars 2hr finale.

The Series Finale will kill anything in the competition. All the other networks know that the series finale for LOST could end-up bringing huge numbers for ABC.
It could become the highest rated scripted show on tv for this season. Even if CBS decides to air Survivor, it knows that it will lose big time against the Series finale of LOST
Poor competition on Sunday, The Event could do really big Ratings there.
ABC should split up this year’s AFV season finale into two parts–the first part airing on May 16th and the second part airing on May 23th leading into the LOST Recap special at 8pm. It’s not like the LOST Recap special needs a good lead-in after getting above a 4 demo last night, but wouldn’t it be best for ABC to keep this very special night repeat-free?
LOST fans shouldn’t worry about the possibility of CBS scheduling the Survivor finale against the LOST finale. In May 2005, CBS scheduled the Survivor finale against Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy and got crushed as a result. There’s no doubt that they would get crushed going up against the series finale of a highly-rated TV show.

It’s a bit surprising that LOST will only produce 121 hours. Kind of sad that ABC crashed and burned it’s three hotest properties from that year. I’d be surprised if either GA or DH make it to 200. Hope they have something in the pipeline because next year will be really bad for them.

Yeah the 18th will be the Idol final performances and then DWTS is the week after… so Sunday is the logical choice to avoid June.
Desperate Housewives 2 hour finale will air on May 16th so LOST will fill the slot the sunday after (May 23rd).
I hope LOST finale does over 20 Million viewers, everyone should watch it just to be a part of history and to see how it all finally ends!!!
Hell yeah!! I work in the afternoon so I was planning on taking a sick day for the Lost finale, not that it’s going to be on Sunday, I won’t have to. Thank you ABC!
