Syndicated Top 25 + Legend of The Seeker Up Slightly Again

Legend of the Seeker Fans: The updated table for Season two's ratings is below the normal syndicated top 25 table.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown! FansSmackdown! didn't make the top 25 (it was #27), but the telecast on January 22 averaged 3.416 million

Please note that the syndicated weekly results are delayed versus normal reporting.  While we get the broadcast and cable ratings for the prior Monday-Sunday period every Tuesday, there is an extra week of lag time with the syndicated ratings and these numbers are not for last week, but for the week before last (in other words, the WWE Friday Night Smackdown! is for January 22, not January 29).

  1. Stefan

Do you know the household rating for Smackdown?

  2. Stefan, 2.1

  3. Stefan

    Thanks Robert

  4. Flip

Thx again for the LOTS information Robert!!!!!

  5. Joltman

OK, I give up. What is (AT)? I’ve never been able to figure it out…

  6. I haven’t been following the ratings for very long, so maybe someone who is more familiar can confirm this…

Do shows that are still airing on broadcast television benefit when they become syndicated to cable?

For instance, 30 Rock is nearing syndication levels. Could the NBC airings of 30 Rock start to get better ratings (ie. will it be able to stand on its own two feet, supposing it is around longer than The Office) once the reruns are aired on cable? And if there is a relationship, why haven’t NBCU insisted that a network like USA air it now?

  7. battye, my take is not usually. The one exception seems to be that NCIS benefited a little in its CBS ratings once it was in the regular rotation on USA Network.

Most other shows seem to see normal ratings erosion in the broadcast numbers once in syndication (examples: The Office, Family Guy, House).

Do shows that are still airing on broadcast television benefit when they become syndicated to cable?

First, a note: the ratings here are not for ‘syndicated to cable’ shows, this is ‘syndicated to local affiliates’ shows, so it’s a completely different thing.

Sometimes. NCIS has definitely benefited from that, but Without a Trace didn’t seem to. I don’t know of any cases off-hand where a comedy clearly benefited, but there could be. The real advantage of syndication is the money for the production company, not the ratings for originals.

As for why 30 Rock isn’t on USA. First and foremost, USA doesn’t want it. It doesn’t fit their brand and the ratings would be horrible. NBCU likes what’s happening on USA and they aren’t going to force it to be NBC2.

  9. Thanks for the syndicated numbers! I enjoy coming to your site and seeing the updated info on Legend of the Seeker cause it allows me to post that info on my own website for Seeker fans!

Looks like LoTS is on an upswing as well which is good!! If Perdition’s numbers are good next week and the Superbowl pause doesn’t kill momentum then we are sitting in good shape for a possible Season 3 announcement Soon(tm)

  10. Confused

    I have a couple questions:

    1. Why are syndicated ratings reported elsewhere as AA and GAA?
    2. What does AT mean?
    3. How are the ratings determined for shows that are double run (Judy, Oprah)? Are both runs added in your figures?

It would be nice to see where all the original syndicated shows fall in the rates (Access Hwd, Ellen, etc.).

  11. Confused:

1.) the viewer numbers here are AA (average audience). GAA (gross average audience) is an accepted standard for syndicated shows (it counts people who have watched multiple airings of the same program multiple times). But GAA numbers aren’t produced for ALL shows, so I just stick with AA.

    2.) I don’t know! (I’ll ask)

3.) see #1. if someone watched either, or both airings, they would count, but only once.

Nielsen limits us to tables of 25, and I’m not getting into requests (there are over 100 programs counted as syndication). For the week above, Ellen was 28th, Access Hollywood 32nd (by AA). I know there is an audience for Seeker and Smackdown, so I post those numbers. Sadly, few people care about most of the syndicated numbers.

  12. Empire

Thanks Robert for the LoTS numbers, glad to see the ratings go up a bit in the last couple of weeks, a truly unique and entertaining series.

  13. Confused: AT stands for “Additional Telecasts”. for a show that airs M-F, it means there were more than 5 telecasts over those days wheras shows like Jeopardy and Wheel only have the five telecasts for their M-F run.

  14. john

I am still shocked to this day that the Simpsons are almost never (I’ve never seen it) in the top 25. I think they are one of the most $$$ shows in syd.

  15. tvmegafan

    LOTS!!!

  16. snowleopard1986

I for one hope LOTS sees a third season because it certainly deserves it. It is one of the best fantasy/action/adventure series on television. Also, considering it’s not shown every day like most of the ones listed above, I think the ratings are very exceptional.
Spread the word about this entertaining show and keep it going.

  17. Dee

Thanks Robert for the LoTS ratings. Hope the show continues for many seasons.

  18. Moe

Thanks so much for publishing the Seeker ratings!! Those don’t look bad at all. Here’s hoping for a third season!

  19. Kyle

    Judge Judy – 4.9

    Big Time!

  20. ryan

What about hulu and other means of watching this show? Also alot of shows sell alot of dvd’s like heroes. I bought LoTS on DVD and I watch it and alot of other shows on the internet if I miss it or if its a good episode, like the one when richards in the desert. I also liked The Office Jim and Pams wedding so I watched that over again. Too bad Hulu is sposed to start charging soon, then I will have to find someplace else that hopefully uses just ads.
