2.8 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS TUNE IN TO THE PREMIERE AND ENCORE OF “THE MICHAEL VICK PROJECT”

NEW YORKFebruary 3, 2010— BET banked impressive viewer numbers for the premiere of THE MICHAEL VICK PROJECT on Tuesday, February 2 at 10:00 PM.*  The premiere and encore presentations drew in 2.8 million viewers according to Nielsen Media Research. Throughout the run of this original docu-series, viewers can expect to see not only the NFL star’s return to football after a two-year prison sentence stemming from his association with a dog fighting ring, but will also get a  glimpse at much of his life prior to that turning point.

The premiere of THE MICHAEL VICK PROJECT was the number one first quarter Tuesday original series debut in BET history and stands as the number one BET original series telecast of 2010.  Additionally, the premiere episode posted double-digit time slot gains of +46% versus last year as well as +33% versus the BET's Tuesday season-to-date average through last Tuesday.

The series, produced by DuBose Entertainment, MV7 Productions and Category 5 Entertainment, follows the iconic and polarizing professional football player as he journeys on the road to redemption -- in both his personal and professional life.

The series is executive produced by DuBose Entertainment, Michael Vick’s MV7 Productions and Brian Sher’s Category 5 Entertainment.

  3. BARB

    Iconic !!!

    WTF !!!

he`s a disgusting slimeball who should rott in jail not have his own tv show

  4. AppleStinx

A lot of people want to believe they’re the forgiving kind by paving this guy’s redemption road with gold. I’m glad he got his act together, but this is appaling.

  5. Cimmer

You know I guess I could understand this show if he’d ‘just’ been involved in dog fighting- like backing it but never going to a match or visiting the kennels, totally reprehensible but he’s just another clueless person who doesn’t ‘get it’ until it’s shoved in his face. But the fact that he helped personally kill dogs, more than once (can’t even use the I was just curious defense), that freaks me out. I wish the backers of this show had used the money to help the victims rather than make a victim of the perpetrator.

More proof that if you do something wrong and act inappropriately, you get on tv and become even more famous. I hate what our airwaves are becoming. Disgusting behavior is rewarded. Go Charlie Sheen!!!!

  7. Gannbino

You people need to get a life. All I hear if crying and complaining about the past on what this man did. So what, it was wrong and he did his time. What do you want him to do, go out and rob your houses to make money or use what talent was given to him. Get a life, I’m sure no on this board has never done anything they are ashamed of…..

  8. BlueEyeDevils

    “BlueEyeDevils” being “BlueEyeDevils”

    HA HA HA

  9. Charles

Pretty simple. Don’t watch it, hope no one else watches it and it will be canceled. Some people don’t feel the same you do about dogs. I like dogs, but the man served his time. Move on.

  10. I agree, Charles. Also, this is on BET, technically not the airwaves. :) It’s only 2.8 million… stop acting like Vick is taking over your television.

  11. Christian

He should be made to clean the shit off of public restroom toilets, not headline his own reality show! That’s what people are up in arms about!

  12. lakers suck

Christian u talk about own show I don’t see u knocking down martha stewart door or I guess she is an exception who stole money and is one of the reasons this country is in a recession or I guess u blame obama 4 that 2 get a life my pet pitbull has more of a life than some of u ignorant people who will never make to heaven where 4giveness is a way of life

  13. ern.

    @lakers suck…first off your name = GOLD
    and i agree with you.

people are always so quick to talk down on people who foul up but always want forgiveness themselves when they screw up.

personally i’m not gonna sit here and say i “forgive” Michael Vick for 1 reason: who the hell am i to forgive or not forgive anybody? i’m not his God its not my place to forgive him or not. now if he did something to me then i could decide to forgive him or not.

with that said i’m a dog guy (not a dog lover…those are those PETA psychos IMO) and needless to say Michael Vick would never be able to be around my dog—> uhhh if i had one.

  14. ern.

oh and 1 more thing like Acey said its only BET.

i’m apart of BET’s target (young, black male) and i barely watch it.

  15. Dan

What bothers me most about this man is all the insincere phoniness about redemption. People don’t regard a dog’s life as meaningless and worthy of killing like cockroaches and then suddenly wake up one morning with the epiphany that dogs are wonderful beings. At least have the courage to say “I don’t care about dogs. I don’t see anything wrong with what i did. People kill other animals for fun. I’m sorry that what I did offended you, but thats just who I am.” I just hate when people like this treat me like a moron.

  16. Kevin

I’m white and used to watch BET when they had Ed Gordon, Tavis Smiley, and listenable music and videos. Those day are long gone and this reinforces my decision. BET is only adding to his bank account by airing this show.

Vick is a human piece of filth. He is a murderer and torturer. The NFL should be ashamed of letting him back in to earn millions of dollars and the Eagles are just as culpable by signing him.
Ironic that a guy with strong conservative opinions, Rush Limbaugh, was met with so much resistance as a possible minority purchaser of an NFL team, he was forced to drop out but this scumbag is allowed to play in the same league. What a joke.

  17. Kevin

Dan, he couldn’t say that and be reinstated in the NFL. He HAD to tell them what they wanted to hear. The funny thing is, I don’t blame VICK for wanting to earn a living. We would all do the same thing. I blame the JUSTICE SYSTEM for letting him out so soon, the NFL for allowing him to play, the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES for signing him, and BET for putting him in a reality show.

  18. AppleStinx

I don’t have any problems with whatever sentence he got, his redemption or making a decent living. He served his time. What I don’t like to see is anyone profiting from a crime he/she committed, and this program helps him do just that.

  19. Kevin

IMO,his sentence was much to short. The state of Virginia was supposed to go after him as well and he could have spend a lot more time behind bars. I also believe that The NFL should not have allowed him back so soon, if ever, although as you stated, he has to earn a living. We’re in total agreement on the reality show. BET has sunk to a new all-time low.

  20. Cimmer

I think people are just a lot more forgiving of crimes they can see themselves committing, up to and including murder but there are some crimes where people don’t want to ‘identify’ with the criminal; child molestation, necrophilia, serials rapists, torturing animals, murdering people and eating them etc., you know the ‘icky crimes’ that even creep out other criminals. I have no doubt that if Mr. Vick had robbed a string of houses to satisfy his drug habit there wouldn’t be this kind of discussion going on but it’s hard to give someone the same leeway if they do something that makes you think they’re ‘wired wrong’.

I’m not worried about Mr. Vick making up his lost revenue on the playing field if he’s still got his skill and if he doesn’t live up to expectations he’s got a built in excuse: people wouldn’t let him move on.

I just think the show is kind of odd for someone who keeps insisting he wants to put all this unpleasantness behind him and get on with his life.
