I’ll never understand Bill O’Reilly’s need to put down guests that don’t see his point of view. Stewart did a scathing argument against Mitt Romney, in support of gay marriage, when Romney was on his show. But at no point was Mitt ever made to look like Stewart thought he was dirt. But Bill’s “mostly stoned slackers” view of Stewart’s audience is just getting old. That joke wasn’t funny 8 years ago, it isn’t funny now, Bill, get some new material. And his “I’m surprised you said something smart, Stewart” condescension is just downright annoying.

Otherwise, I thought it was an interesting exchange of ideas.

lol lighten up Catiebug he was just joking around. He does the same stuff with Beck all the time. WHO CARES.

I wish that Stewart had an hour a day like the rest of the joke shows on CNN, MSNBC and FNC. He’s the only one who asks the questions that should be asked, not questions designed to further a particular viewpoint. The Daily Show should be requiring watching because it’s really eye-opening, and actually downright depressing sometimes when you realize how hoodwinked people really are by both the media and politicians.

Bill O’Reilly is a pretty level headed Conservative and Jon Stewart is also a pretty level headed Liberal if only this is how the two opposing views interacted with each other we would have a much better discourse in this country than the crazy stuff coming from the fringes of both sides right now.

  5. Cyndy

I agree with you Doug. Stewart doesn’t speak in soundbites and platitudes like most of these jokers. He treats his guests with respect and has actual dialogue meant to make viewers think and draw their own conclusions. Wish there were more like him out there. Rachel Maddow might come close.

  6. Kellsws6

o god no theres no way The Daily Show should be requiring watching, its way to left, all jon ever taks about is bush still. at least last week when I watched it he did. and for an hour? yea I’d shoot myself.

  7. Kellsws6

    talks*

  8. Kay Bradley

Wow… talk about walking into the lion’s den. Jon Stewart did a good job too.

    Catiebug says:
“I’ll never understand Bill O’Reilly’s need to put down guests that don’t see his point of view.”

Its insecurity. Deep down he knows that he is wrong, psychologically it fuels his anger at himself, but he can’t bear to face that so he channels it at his guest.

  10. Outlander

O’Reilly certainly challenged Stewart and was his usual bombastic self, but by the same token, he gave Stewart 4 segments on his show (over 2 nights) and allowed him to get his points out uninterrupted. It was a fair and respectful debate. With all due respect to my liberal friends, MSNBC would never allow a conservative on its network under those ground rules. (And, candidly, neither would the broadcast news organizations). Either the conservative wouldn’t be allowed on the air at all, or would be paired with 3-4 liberals and unmercifully attacked the entire time.

  11. Kellsws6

Outlander thats how the left works, there so sick in the head that they reject even the thought of a cure.

  12. Chuck fan

Heavily edited interview by Fox News.

What do you expect from a network that cut away from Republican Retreat Debate when Obama was lecturing the GOP for commentary against Obama?

All of the other networks carried the entire debate.

  13. Kellsws6 (or is this really Ann Coulter?) – Just stop with the baseless attacks on liberals. It’s juvenile, and WAY below what is expected for readers of this site.

To others – I would argue that maybe O’Reilly doesn’t believe everything he says. Like how Cramer tried to justify his stock tips last year, maybe he’s strictly an entertainer.

My favorite part was when Bill O’Reilly tries to claim that the audience knows that they aren’t news, but opinions (like the Pakistan comment saying people say “let’s watch the O’Reilly opinion show!”). People see FOX News as news. NOT editorial. For years, I’ve felt they need to have a disclaimer at the start of the shows for Hannity, O’Reilly, Beck – like the 700 Club has:

“The views expressed in the following program are those of the commentator. Not necessarily those of FOX News.”

That might help their denying that they are a conservative news org.

  14. Catiebug

Outlander – I agree it was very fair and respectful discourse. Bill does seem to have respect for Jon, I just get annoyed with the condescending jokes. Maybe it’s because they aren’t funny. If his comments directed at Jon were actually funny, I’d be OK with them. Humor always wins!

nkinsey – I like your point… I’m pretty darn leftist, but I would not have a problem if Fox News stated their position as an editorial outlet, rather than news. Same with MSNBC. But they both portray themselves as unbiased news organizations, and they just aren’t. But then again, most news delivies are biased… the birth of the news industry comes from big corporations creating propaganda outlets.

  15. Blabla

    jon rocks billy sucked

  16. Larsen

If Jon Liebowitz (ashamed of his surname) is so great, why couldn’t he do his 1/2hr. “news” show during the writers strike?

  17. BigShouldersRtwinger

You want to see FOX give the others the death blow? They should hire Stewart! Put in Hannity’s or Greta’s spot, holy guacamole that would: 1. Put more “balance” in their opinion line-up and, 2. Just draw in crazy ratings. I’m no fan of Stewart, but he’s sharp and tolerable (from my conservative viewpoint). I like Hannity, on the radio. Greta is Greta.

But if Fox sells a little of their opinion soul, they could wipe out primetime news shows on other networks.

Since Colmes has left regular programming, their is an opening for a left show. Bill O puts a lot of libs on, and then there’s Hannity’s panel, but a dedicated lib with some funny chops would round out primetime nicely, IMO.

  18. Kellsws6

Ann culter I wish! if I was I would saduce obama and put the movie on the internet, you know he wouldnt beable to resist a white women

  19. Jeff

Wow. O’Reilly got punished. Jon came on and just and dropped amazing intellect and Billy just came back calling his viewers stoner’s, and making fun of the fact that Jon has more of a vocabulary.

  20. Demonjoe

Kermonk, If Bill O’reilly knew he was wrong then wouldn’t want to bring Jon Stewart on.

And since when did tvbythenumbers show videos?
