Frances Reid died yesterday. I’m not a DAYS watcher, but I have always loved this type of character that was on all the shows back in the days when we actually had SOAPS to watch and they were produced with this type of family format. Fans are in store for a lovely tribute to her I imagine. Thanks Miss Reid for all the years of joy you gave to so many viewers…. All the soaps look as though they’re up in viewers — I just wish I could find one that fascinated me day in and day out the way some of them used to. Sigh…

  2. George

I think it’s funny that the one demo where ATWT isn’t near the bottom is girls 12-17. I know these ratings reflect what happened last week, but I wonder if things will stay the same when the ratings come out for this week considering “the show” that Mick & Ali have put on the last couple days. I’m sure a lot of parents wouldn’t be too thrilled with daughters watching that…

  3. rob

I think soaps are way down from last year because sweeps started a week earlier last year. Sweeps are late this year.

Good increase for GH. I expected it. Hope OLTL can do better!

  4. mark-allen

did they cancel the new “let’s make a deal”?

  5. rob

mark-allen, where did u hear that? I heard the ratings for it werent bad.

  6. mark-allen

i just noticed that here they always seem to be in reruns, so i was just wondering.

  7. rob

According to CBS.com theyre not reruns.

  8. George

    @mark-allen

I know that on the ATWT board over at soapcentral someone had mentioned that their local affiliate was no longer carrying LMAD

Days tumbled a bit…. But with the cliffhangers that happened today, and Malenie and Philip’s wedding next friday Ratings will go back up, and hopefully overtake B&B once and for all!! R.I.P Frances Ried (Alice Horton)… Days will write this into the show…. and the aftermath will leave everyone SPEECHLESS!!! Alice Horton even though she was off-canvas she’s part of basically everyone in Salem… You thought Mickey’s death was shocking… this will rock everyone to the core…

  10. Dale

Wow, looks like AMC has full potential to rebound. With happier stories now, hopefully the ratings will either hold steady or grow. When they quit breaking up the couples or making them unhappy, things got better. Still rooting for OLTL to raise and I hope the big Llantano Mountain story raises ratings

  11. Doug

One of the most touching episodes Frances Reid did was back in the mid-7o’s where Brooke Hamilton’s mom, knowing one more drink would kill, would not give up the glass. Alice was there to console and pray with Brooke in a way that was touching and authentic.

Funny enough this is what is missing in the soaps today…humaness. There so much plot, that these could be chess pieces moving along in them just as well as characters. Far fetched plots of the 50′s and 60′s (finding a long-lost husband in the South Seas?) could still be sold because these were ‘people’ involved in the story, not a two-dimensional cut out moving around. With the loss of France Reid and James Mitchell, we are strong performers who knew how to still breath life even during a crappy story.

  12. Jim

Frances will definitely be missed an I hope NBC gives her the proper sendoff. Will always miss your homemade doughnuts Mrs. H!

  13. Stephen J

I hope thorsten kaye, Zack Slater on AMC, goes back to OLTL and it already looks like they are heading in that direction with the tension between Natalie and Marty rising. Hopefully if he returns, he can increase the shows ratings.

  14. Dale

    Stephen J:

That would be an ideal scenario. It would also create another adversary for Todd. John and Marty are stale! Two great performers who have so much potential, yet don’t click on screen. Hate to say it, but recast Marty and John had better chemistry. I hope they keep Natalie strong and feisty, not a shrinking violet needing to be rescued

  15. keith

I am very impressed with AMC as of late. Its refreshing how they ended the charles pratt stories and moved on to bigger better things. I must say I love how the new sets look on AMC and the way it looks being hidef now. Even though I dont have hi-def tv, I can still notice a difference!~!!

  16. Shem

    RIP MS. Reid

Y&R is really hot and will trend up in the coming weeks!

  17. Joe

i agree with keith. I love how AMC looks in hi-def. Now that they are in LA the show should rebound soon.

  18. Dale

All AMC has to do now is bring Cady McClain and Julia Barr back full time and they have a winning product!!!! How awesome would it be if Tad and Brooke somehow resumed a relationship just as Dixie returned? It would bring back the glory days of the early 90′s. No more Upchuck Pratt or Murdering McTavish ruining good characters and stories!

I found out here that Frances Reid passed away yesterday. I’ve watched ever since I was a young teenager and discovered Days one summer afternoon, and havebeen a viewer ever since. There have been a few off seasons, but this show’s writing has taken me through heartbreak, the birth of my children, dealing twice with cancer, the loss of a child, and many of the Days of My Life. It’s charm has been the stories of human struggles and strength, and not the turns of the ‘over-the-top’ dramatic.
Grandma Horton reminds me so much of my own Mom, and I thought that was unique, but I’ve come to find she was every viewer’s Grandma or Mom.
We will surely miss her, but I suspect she would give the viewers the same advice she would give any family member or resident of Salem…each day is a gift. Cherish it, and don’t waste time about what could have been, but rejoice in what was and, what will be. Be happy.
Thank you Frances, and Grandma Horton, for the years of good advice, love, faith and homemade donuts. We’ll miss you…and to her family…thank you for sharing.

  20. Melissa

Not surprised with the new ratings. GH went up because they know it’s sweeps, and this is where they exile! It was a great week for them in terms of demos.

Days dropped because there is nothing happening. 2.0 on Thursday is a big kick in the privates. You have to keep the audience wanting more, Days. I think the ratings will go some once the drama between Vivian/Carly/Melanie and the other major players hits it’s peak sometime this week and even next.

Once again, RIP Frances Reid, you are always and forever be in a loyal soap fans heart. NBC, get it right! That is all I ask. Don’t let Dena ruined Frances’ tribute.
