I don’t favor the idea of Castle competing against Bones. Those two, I believe, appeal to the same demographic such that those who watch Bones are likely to watch Castle. It would be terrible if fans of both shows would have to choose one over the other. Plus I have a strong feeling that Castle will lose on this one.

Awww, no Bones for two months, and after tonight’s episode Castle won’t have new episodes until March. That’s awful. Well, that just means Mondays and Thursdays will be my new happy hour nights. Hehe!

@Moose – I like all the characters in Bones, and I’d hate to see any character get axed, but I agree Angela should’ve been the given the boot. That’s to say, if the Jeffersonian has to lay off an employee, Angela indubitably should be it. I believe her role as Bones’ best friend saved her.

I think since The Deep End is doing so so so so terribly in the 8 pm timeslot. I think this helped flashforward a lot! I mean ABC is having a big issue with this timeslot. UB did decent and kept declining, and eventually got moved. flashforward didn’t do terrible until the last couple before the show took a break and now with The Deep End, and don’t forget when they tried Samantha Who? and In The Motherhood in that slot. So I think that if ABC really doesn’t think any new shows can do good in this timeslot and FF returns with at least a 2.5 then I think it will get renewed.

BTW, the Hollywood Reporter reported that David S. Goyer has now left FlashForward to focus on writing and directing feature films. Now they will be on their 3rd showrunner in 1 TV season. When was the last time a show went through so much creative problems? I recall Commander in Chief went through 3 showrunners in it’s 1st season and then got cancelled.

When FlashForward returns in late March, I really don’t think it can do any better than 3rd place in the 8pm timeslot. Bones is rock solid and Survivor will get it’s core audience back. Ever since FF premiered to big numbers, the timeslot has been very problematic for ABC even now with The Deep End.

This may sound a bit premature, but I think CSI could last another 4-5 seasons. I think Fishburne is already contracted to do the show 5 seasons along with his production deal with CBS.

The question is whether the cast who have been with the show since Day 1 want to stay that long. Marg Helgenberger is 52 and IMO is very sexy for her age, but I can’t see her staying on the show pushing 60. She may stay 1-2 more seasons max. The rest of the cast is already pushing 40 or in their 40′s, so I think if CBS wants the show to last longer, they seriously need to think about making it younger.

I always laugh when I come in here and some people are predicting that CSI will be cancelled. Granted, CSI isnt the powerhouse it once was(but then again, what 10 year old is?) but it is still one of the Top Ranked shows on Tv(currently in the Top 10 for season to date). So Calm Down People because CSI is still on for a few more years, has alot of life left in it. In Fact, last nights episode was one of the better ones of the season.

Bones seems to be gaining viewers this season.

Grey’s is beginning to show its age, I stopped watching that show last season.

It’s interesting that CSI increased viewership in the second half hour; the mentalist dropped somewhat. For a show that has gone thru so many cast changes, CSI is doing fine. They can rejuvenate their base at any time by bringing Willie Pete back. It’s holding its own with Fishburne in the fold and with the success of the “Dr Ray” crossovers across all of the CSIs last fall during sweeps, they are just fine.

@ Moose… I do agree.. A one off episode here or there is ok but the writers do stray away from the storyline a lot. but I think like last season they are gonna end the season with a bunch of important episodes.

RViewer, no surprise there. The scripted shows with the highest Live+Same Day viewership (CBS) tend to be the most watched on DVR (in Live+7 day viewership).

The scripted shows with the highest 18-49 Live+Same Day ratings (Grey’s, House, etc.) tend to be the most watched by adults 18-49 on DVR.

Sports shows are DVR viewed at a low rate, as typically are unscripted shows and repeats.

Well unless there 18-49, it’s almost useless.
Nice for Fringe, people slowly finding there way back to show.
I don’t see the Mentalist doing any better at 9pm up against tougher compeitition. But CSI is slowing down without William Peterson.

Those DVR numbers don’t surprise me. A bit biased I am, but I’m truly of the belief that Criminal Minds is the best show on broadcast TV and The Mentalist is a close second. Can’t wait for CM2.

Interesting that out of the top 10 of the ‘highest rated DVR program of the 2009 TV season to date’ shows, five of those shows were on CBS. Seems like those ‘old’ folks watching CBS knows how to use that DVR.

Supernatural was amazing last night the interaction between the boys and Mary near the end of the episode was great. Sam getting to tell John all that stuff but not having John know it was him he was talking about was an impactful moment. Then Michael telling Dean that it is in his blood and that is why he can not escape it. If you are a fan of Supernatural go find it online. This was easily one of their best episodes ever. With the way the ratings are looking Kripke will get his wish and end the show after season 5. Anyway I am happy for Bones it is a great show.

Really good for Vampire Diaries! Not so good for Supernatural though. It looks like if it has another season left it will be paired with Smallville on Friday Nights.

Bones and Fringe are good together even though Bones gets more total viewers.

Holly, I read it in the printed 12-18-09 issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine. I kept the article titled “FALL TV WINNERS AND LOSERS ACCORDING TO YOUR DVR” It stated “This season’s overall DVR champ is regular ratings giant ‘The Mentalist’, which earns an additional 2.97 million viewers–a 19.1 percent bump, for a total audience of 18.52 million.”

I can corroborate Judy’s mention of the Entertainment Weekly’s chart it goes –

The DVR Top 30 DVR Viewers Percentage bump from DVR viewing

1.The Mentalist 2.97 19.1
2.Greys Anatomy 2.93 19.6
3.House 2.52 17.6

You get the idea (sorry not willing to type out all the top 30!) Its a really interesting article but I don’t think its online.

Finals are in, and P&R stayed at 2.3, tied for a 19-episode high. Only the first two episodes of the series did better (3.0, 2.5).

The Mentalist was typically near (but never at) the top of the weekly adults 18-49 ratings added via DVR viewing, but I never bothered calculating the average viewership addition via DVR. It would not startle me if it was the #1 show for average viewership added via DVR.

Hooray for The Mentaist! I am thrilled it is doing so well on Thursday nights. True I would rather see it back on Tuesday’s at 9PM however I understand why CBS changed it to Thursday nights at 10PM.

Did you know that Entertainment Weekly posted in their 12-18-09 issue that The Mentalist was the HIGHEST RATED DVR PROGRAM OF THE 2009 TV SEASON TO DATE!!! Can’t get much better than that!

To be honest I would follow Simon Baker and The Mentalist no matter when CBS airs the show. I just can’t get enough of this series and that Simon Baker gets me every time with his charm and his smile!!

The problem with Fringe is that the writers keep going away from the main storyline. Sure, they brought the main storyline back for the final winter break episode, but how likely are they to pick up with that storyline and run with it for any length of time when they come back from the break?

As for Bones, IMO, the writing is terrible, but for some reason people still watch the show. I haven’t liked the writing since Zach was given the boot. If they were going to get rid of anyone, it should have been Angela.

Supernatural is still a great show. However, as much as I love Vampire Diaries, I don’t think the two shows are compatible. This view is with and without preemptions. SV & SN should pair up again next fall. They were good for one another. Let Vampire attach to a new show and jumpstart that program. Newer shows have a much higher chance of building viewers than older programs (NCIS & Bones are rare cases). Lastly, I hope SN comes back next year. It’s a great show. Maybe that should add some new characters. I like the angel/demon storyline, but I think it needs to end this May.

Bones was moved to Thursday night to establish an entrance into the Thursday night slaughter fest. Clearly, it’s accomplished its mission. Bones is already renewed for another season, so there is virtually no drama in discussing it.

Unless…

We consider a time slot change for Bones. Move Bones to the Thursday night at 9 slot, possibly giving it Lie to Me or Glee as a lead in, or launching a new show at 8. Sure, it’s a tough hour, particularly for a middle aged show like Bones. But the competition is getting weaker and Bones fans have a proven record of following their show.

I don’t think this action is really likely, but it should be good for some debate.

Community had its best episode of the season last night. It may have been beaten in a major demo by Parks & Recreation but Community had more total viewers. Community had better be renewed. Its the best show on the NBC Thursday night lineup.

I realize the overnight post is not the place to post this, but E!Online is reporting that Chris Meloni is leaving SVU. Although it is unclear if they are talking about at the end of THIS season, since that’s what the title indicates, or if they are talking about the end of next season (since the article makes reference to him staying on the show for 12 years – it is currently in its 11th season).

Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens with SVU. I know I’ll still watch the show as long as Mariska is on it…
