I wouldn't read anything into the schedule changes for this Friday. CBS originally had repeats of its Friday night lineup scheduled anyway since the opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics are Friday on NBC.
via press release:
CBS TO AIR ENCORE PRESENTATION OF "Undercover Boss" PREMIERE EPISODE ON FRIDAY, FEB. 12
An Encore Presentation of the Special SURVIVING SURVIVOR
Will Also Air on Feb. 12
Following its record-setting debut, the new reality series Undercover Boss will have an encore presentation of its premiere episode on Friday, Feb. 12 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The special, SURVIVING SURVIVOR, will also have an encore showing on Feb. 12 from 8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT.
Undercover Boss' premiere episode was seen by 38.6 million viewers, making it the largest audience ever for a new series following the Super Bowl. The series also notched the largest audience ever for a premiere episode of a reality series and the third largest post-Super Bowl audience behind a "Friends Special" in 1996 and CBS's SURVIVOR: THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK in 2001.
The premiere episode of Undercover Boss follows Larry O'Donnell, the President and COO of Waste Management, as he works alongside his employees, cleaning porta-potties, sorting waste at one of their recycling plants, collecting garbage from a landfill and even being fired for the first time in his life. The series moves to its regular time period starting Sunday, Feb. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) when the President and CEO of Hooters, Coby Brooks, goes undercover in his own company.
The special SURVIVING SURVIVOR takes a look back at one of the decade's most influential series with interviews and updates with some of the show's most beloved castaways. The special features new revelations from host Jeff Probst, season one winner Richard Hatch, Colby Donaldson (Australia), Benjamin "Coach" Wade (Tocantins), Jerri Manthey (Australia) and many others.
The programming schedule for Friday, Feb. 12 is as follows:
8:00-9:00 PM SURVIVING SURVIVOR (R)
9:00-10:00 PM Undercover Boss (R)
10:00-11:00 PM NUMBERS (R)

Ghost Whipserer’s “Birthday Presence” (aired 9/25/09) and Medium’s “Once in a Lifetime” (aired 11/13/09) bumped.
TV ratings are starting to get interesting again. I await the comments of (some) of my peers.
I dont think that it will get 30 something again!!
That is a very smart move by CBS. Although, why are they repeating Numb3rs at 10pm? IMO, it would have been smarter to repeat Medium at 10pm, since it would have counted as a special timeslot, or even The Amazing Race season premiere. Make the entire night a special night of repeats. Very good move airing Surviving Survivor, which will probably pick up some viewers who didn’t watch it last week, and the premiere of Undercover Boss.
I agree that they should have made the whole night special and not airing Numbers, but I think they hope with those 2 shows before it, it should grab some new viewers, but I doubt it will work.
They’re canning it. I don’t think they really care.
As a nurse and one of the longest surviving kidney patients, I loved Undercover Boss!!! Not only is it wonderful for a COO or CEO to do this but to show a dialysis patient working after being on dialysis so long……..the show is just a fabulous teacher! I want to meet the person behind this and give them a BIG HUG and thank you!!!
Another Stupid Piece of Reality TRASH!
No need for an encore on Friday..the regular lineup is fine.
The only reason why it did good was because there was nothing else new on besides the Super Bowl..duh….CBS get a grip!
WOW – 38 million……g r e a t for CBS….I knew they were going to have a great year in 2010!
As reality shows go, it was actually pretty engaging on a higher plane than “trashy guilty pleasure”. I won’t rewatch this episode, but I might tune in later in the season and catch a couple of more. Which is all CBS was looking for, so I guess it turned out to be a good move on their part after all.
Ugh, sucks… the show sucks, I bet it’s second episode will get somewhere around 14 million viewers and at the end of the season CBS will be thinking “God, this show sucked, how could we even think to air it. And after the Super Bowl!”.. WWhy don’t they leave the Friday line-up the way it is. GW, Medium & Numb3rs…
waterflame, Undercover Boss is awesome. And CBS obviously loves this show enough to air an encore of this show. Not to mention it was the highest rated post SuperBowl show since 2001.
Brain, really? Trash? NO NO NO. 38 million tuned into this show including me after the SuperBowl and the show is great. Obviuosly 38 millions others think so too.
Why is everyone bitching so much about this? It’s ONE encore to bump one REPEAT of Medium against the Opening Ceremonies. Not a big deal whatsoever.
@Scott
No, about 25-30 million people left their TVs on ‘Mute’ after the Super Bowl. The other ~10 million DID like it.
And yes, it’s not a big deal but CBS shouldn’t be so happy.
1. It was a premiere. Usually premieres get higher ratings than the rest of the episodes.
2. It was after the Super Bowl, of course it’ll get ~20 million viewers + the viewers that were checking the new series out.
I’m extremely interested in what ratings it’s season finale will get…
Undercover Boss: this was one of the best programs I’ve seen in years. The lack of violence, nudity, & offensive language was truly refreshing; and the plot was one that inspired. Both the COO and the employees were down to earth people who cared about others & were willing to help–much different than the usual cut ‘em down that we see. I hope this show can be the start of something bigger & better for the viewers.
Undercover Boss is a great show. Very refreshing to see something positive for a change. thank you for having it CBS
