Will Heroes Be Renewed Or Will It Be Canceled?

Tonight is the season finale for Heroes.  Will it also be its series finale?

The ratings have been so poor this season that even on lowly NBC its numbers would lean towards cancellation.   But NBC is in such turmoil it will likely at least consider renewing the show anyway.

I know people will talk about DVD sales, international licensing, etc. and while they might aid its status, on a healthier NBC, I don't think those factors would come into play.

However, things are in such turmoil at NBC that I can easily imagine a world where NBC would bring it back for another season anyway either as a relaunch of what NBC perceives as a popular and solid brand, or for one final season as a send off.

Heroes renewed? Heroes canceled?

  1. No.

    Renewed, but just barely.

DVD and international sales DO play a role, Mr Seidman, whether you like it or not ;)

Put it out of its misery.

If they could get the creative staff to focus, a great final season might work for them. But I don’t have a lot of confidence that it could be pulled off.

I say to NBC go ahead and whipe the slate clean. Bring in something new. NBC has lost all credibility at being able to deliver serialized drama.

i desperately want it to be renewed, but I’m realistic and voted cancellation.

  6. Don

I would agree with olddarth but on the other hand I would like Heroes to be given closure.

    Renewed!!
    I love this show!

I’m going with just barely renewed, to get it into syndication, although it seems like it only got half a season this year so maybe even another year won’t get it to 100 episodes anyway. I guess it depends on what NBC actually has in the pipeline to replace it with, because it doesn’t seem like many of their new offerings have done any better. Personally, I stopped watching earlier this season (sorry, but one too many “Matt Parkman humiliates himself in front of someone he cares about” sequences and I just had to switch it off) so I don’t have a horse in this race… I’d be inclined to cancel it and take the risk with something else.

I voted renewed. Just looking at the international factor. On the other hand have its final season air on sister network SyFy.

  10. If I was NBC I might pick it up for enough episodes that it can be wrapped up.

But man… the show was absolutely ruined by horrid plot twists… unlimited characters… and frankly just a ton of boring plot lines and “abilities” that made things way too easy.

    I voted cancel.

The show would be going into it’s fifth season and normally that would mean salary bumps for a lot of people. If the show were to survive it would probably need to CUT costs (or drastically increase viewership).

On a personal note, I don’t think the show is really worth saving anyway. I’ve seen every episode and I really don’t think the quality is there anymore.

  12. Brad

    It’ll be back.

  13. I’ll say it’s given one more season (or 13-ep order) to wrap the show up. They’ll say it’s to give the fans closure, but it will really be that NBC doesn’t want to admit its one-time golden child is now a thing of the past.

  14. Victor Hugo

    Please pull the plug …

  15. Q

Do we have numbers to back up all this “international numbers” talk?

  16. Tori

I’m going with canceled. Think DVD sales and international success is what has kept it on the air this season and last, but its an expensive show and those are mighty low ratings for a show that costs this much.

  17. not a parole officer

Cancel it, and never let Tim Kring showrun ever again.

  18. Jo

Its time has come. We saw that with Kring and crew’s other series “Crossing Jordan” which probably should have been canceled a good 2 years before it was. It’s better to go as gracefully as possible than to kick the dead horse into becoming a sad joke (like Jordan).

  19. Hudson

    Canceled! :)

  20. marcus

I voted renew, but I think for only a 13 episode(or less) Final Season.
