Fans of Smallville consider themselves the redheaded step-children when it comes to CW's viewers because CW mostly puts it focus on shows targeted at women 18-34.  But this week's "CW's OMG Moment of the Week" that the CW publicity team periodically sends out was for Smallville (which in and of itself is kind of an OMG moment for the CW).  Here it is:

Really? Thats the CW’s OMG of the week?

For me it was the arc angel Michael taking over John Winchester’s body in Supernatural! The whole episode was one giant OMG moment, come to think of it!

  2. Dr. Fate will be back! I’m really glad they’re utilizing the old Justice Society as well as other comic book characters. Make way for the Justice League!

  3. William

They left the door open for someone to be Dr.Fate when they said they are saving the helmet for someone worthy.

They also left a out of the blue hint about Lex coming back? And the Apolocalypse? They defiantely opened up storylines for the rest of the season. Pretty good for a show sent to pasture on Friday nights.

I still like my Doctor Who-Smallville crossover by the way.

Just about everything Smallville-related is wonderful, but this was a great scene. The self-sacrificing act of Dr. Fate, thereby restoring Martian Manhunter’s powers, was a well thought out plot development. I think Dr. Fate’s appearance on Smallville will have reverberations throughout the remainder of this season and into the next. Geoff Johns did a fantastic job writing the script for the first ever Smallville movie. I hope he comes back next year for another one.

  5. This is awesome especially since it really was an OMG moment why i was watching it!! Yay!! It’s about time Smallville and its fans got a little respect

    AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWESOME! GOO SMALLVILLE!! HAHA

  7. Who Knows?

This also goes to show that if there is something worth watching on a Friday, people will watch it. Smallville is doing just as well as the Monday and Tuesday shows. Makes you wonder how well it would be doing if it came on during those days.

  8. Boris

Man, this reminds me why I only read Marvel comics as a kid.

  9. Smallville #1 Fan

Boris are you kidding me?? This show is fantastic!

  10. Patrick

Am I the only TVBTN reader who finds this photo sort of (homo-)sexual? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

  11. Mdaddy

Wow! I loved the Justice Society. Will there be more of just the Justice Society “gang?” Two hours wasn’t near enough!

I occasionally suffer fits of imagination about what a wonderfully entertaining place the CW could be if Dawn and her toadies were shown the door and better, more insightful executives were put in charge and allowed to make it over – the NEW CW!

Here’s how it might appear in the press:

THE CW SUMMONS SPIRITS, SPIES AND SUPERGUYS FOR NEW FALL SLATE

Under new management and seeking a new direction, the CW network has announced that it will totally revamp its prime time scedule in September. To make room for no less than ten hours of new programming, the network has revealed a surprise expansion to seven nights per week, and will jettison several current shows, including their talked about but little-watched teenybopper soaps Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210 and Melrose Place.

The network says that, coming off of this season’s creative revival, Smallville is not only being renewed, but is expanding to fill a two-hour weekly spot on Sundays. Now dubbed Metropolis, the series will feature three rotating elements: The first will feature Tom Welling taking to the skies as Clark / Superman; the second will focus on a team of heroes led by Green Arrow; and the third will introduce Michelle Rodriguez as a female hero called Wildcat.

Monday is slated to be Gene Roddenberry night on the network, with a new Star Trek entry starring Patrick Stewart leading into Questor, based on Roddenberry’s 1970′s concept of an android robot seeking the reason for his existance.

The network says it hopes to replicate its Vampire Diaries success on Tuesday night with the magical entry Betwixt. That will be followed by the La Femme Nikita revival called simply Nikita.

Song of Wyoming, a family hour from the makers of Gilmore Girls is slated to open Wednesday night, and will lead into the country music drama Music City Blues.

The Vampire Diaries, the network’s biggest new hit, is scheduled to continue in its Thursday timeslot and will be paired with a new series version of the classic date movie Ghost, starring Neve Campbell in the Demi Moore role.

Aiming to maintain the progress made on Fridays this season, the network says it will launch the comic book-based spy series Global Frequency on that night, in tandem with the return of Supernatural.

The CW says it will close out its week with the “stunning” return of WWE Smackdown to its air on Saturday nights. Jesse “The Governor” Ventura is slated to serve as host and color commentator. The series had been one of the highest-rated programs on the network before being cast off in 2008 as part of the push for the young female demographic.

One Tree Hill shouldn’t be lumped in the same group as Gossip Girl and 90210, its the complete opposite.

  14. J.L.

    @Dee

Re: Metropolis with flying Clark, Green Arrow crime-fighting team and “Wildcat”…

    YesPlzThx.

  15. nattanop

I agree with Dillian. One Tree Hill was the WB’s, not the CW originated series.

  16. X-R.G.

There were a LOT of great scenes…the death of Dr Fate was a shocker…he had a lot of advice and added mystery to Lois & Clarks future but at the same time the audience was in on it

…another great moment…the Long Red Cape in space scene with the almost “Superman Music theme”…simply awesome!

  17. Samantha

Dee, you have a very active imagination!

But I can tell you now, the CW has only ordered 5 pilots for new shows Hellcats (aka cheer), BETWIXT, an un named horse project, HMS (medical school related drama) and La Femme Nikita! Of these Hellcats and HMS will only get twenty minute pilots which tells us that the CW has more faith in the other three. It is likely they will only pick up 2 or 3 new shows.

Of the exsisting CW shows all will be back (to be announced latter this month) with the exception of LUX (who may return as a mid season show), OTH (which will undergo budget and cast cuts) and Melrose (which will most likely be cancelled (though it apparently has done quite well with being picked up internationally)

  18. Cody

Instead of being the OTA Lifetime the CW needs to be the OTA SciFi (yes i spelled it SciFi)

  19. Cody

2010-2011 Schedule (One that actually works)
    Monday
    8 One Tree Hill
    9 Life Unexpected

    Tuesday
    8 Smallville
    9 Smallville Spinoff

    Wednesday
    8 ANTM (Unfortunately)
    9 Supernatural

    Thursday
    8 The Vampire Diaries
    9 New Drama

    Friday
8 Gossip Girl (Slowly Kill it and replace with ANTM)
    9 902010

That should be the start of a more profitable CW

  20. Christian

More profitable my ass! Gossip Girl is CW’s 2nd top earner and you put it on Fridays? And Supernatural after Top Model would be disastrous!
