Deadliest Catch Captain Phil Harris died on Tuesday after suffering a stroke two weeks ago.

Statement from Discovery:

Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris.  He was more than someone on our television screen.  Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him.  We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart.  We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil's every move.  We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil's sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.

Statement from his sons Jake and Josh Harris:

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris.  Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down.  We will remember and celebrate that strength.  Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

  1. Wow; I’m touched. It’s always a stunner when someone so strong leaves so early.

I wasn’t a fan of the show, but I’m sure there were a great MANY fans of this man; to them, you have my condolences. There’s been a lot of this, lately.

I’m a fan of the show and the Harris Clan and their boat is a big part of it.

Very sad to hear this news and can only wish his 2 boys and the rest of the family all the best wishes in this tough time.

It’s a terrible shame to see someone who was so vital, strong, full of life, and humor leave too soon. The Harris family and ship crews who knew him have my condolences. I’m sure he will be missed by all who knew him personally and through the show.

Rest in Peace, Captain Phil Harris.

Wow sad news. I thought the media was just reporting that he was finally showing signs of recovery so I didn’t expect this. It goes to show you just how tough that line of work is (plus the alcohol and smoking involved to get them through the day). He seemed like a very well-respected Captain in that industry.

Always was my favorite boat, captain , and crew. My prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

  12. It’s always news when a celebrity passes on, even more so when that “celebrity” is a person portraying his real self life.

    God rest your soul Phil.
