I was shocked to see this, but found it about an hour ago while looking up some news. I did not watch the Super Bowl.
Nonetheless, for just my sheer love of the history of Television…this is the greatest commercial ever aired for the big game.
Maybe next year after Fox acquires Conan (fingers crossed), he will join the couch.
Yeah, keep saying Leno is a liar – thats probably good for ratings.
“it’s not clear who the “executive” that remained in the dark is, or if he exists at all…”
Really? that is the level of reporting here now?
That’s cool that Dave and Jay are still friends after all of this. I’m also glad that Jay knows he owes a debt to Dave and is still appreciative of it. I’m also glad it was Dave that thought up the idea and asked Jay if he’d do it. This is a feel-good moment in TV.
Pretty cool of Jay and Dave. Both true showmen and professionals.
What would have been great if Oprah yelled back, we need the dip for the chips, you hear someone in a familiar voice say “It’s coming” and out comes Conan. He looks at Jay and yells, “You took my seat!!”, Jay looks at him and says “I had this before you”. Just when Conan is about to dump some dip on Jay, Oprah cuts in saying, “Conan NO!”, she turns toward the TV, shakes her head and says “boys, boys, boys….”… I think it would be classic.
Would it be wild now if they also made a Jay promo to air during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies??? I wouldn’t put it past them.
Great television. Now if only Olberman and O’Reilly could do that.
To William at 12:56 – Ain’t no way that Keith Olbermann, aka. KO-KO the Klown, could do a promo with O’Reilly. Firstly, Olbermann is hateful and uncivil to anybody whose viewpoint is not progressive. Secondly, O’Reilly would not put up with the Klown and would point a finger at him, KO-KO would panic, and his restless leg syndrome would go bonkers, he would roll up a sheet of paper into a ball, throw it at Bill and the fight would be on…. Great TV, for Klown-man, but not good for a pretty cool guy – O’Reilly.
William..great idea.
Donald Duck..I agree.
The sad thing is that Olby used to have a sense of humor before he joined the news division. He had a Sunday night sports show on Fox (yes..FOX!) where he was funny and clever. The numbers were poor, Fox severed his contract and maybe that is why he hates them so much.
It was reported on Monday that Jeff Zucker signed off on the Leno promo.
Don’t know if Jay would have to seek NBC’s permission to appear on a CBS program. Maybe somebody has the answer.
I saw the promo but it was so fast I missed some of the dialog, but then I found it on the web and every time I play it I laugh out loud. But, as good as the promo was, Jay’s story-behind-the-story is even better. This was a class act all the way around. Hats off to Dave for coming up with the idea and kudos to Jay for both going along with it and for giving the credit to Dave for bringing it about. Very classy behavior by all of them. If you somehow missed seeing it, it is on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcEx767TIas
I’m sorry but I can’t believe a word Jay Leno says about anything. He’s such a phony spin-master of PR, I didn’t even bother watching this clip.
I am just not into these sanitized ass-kissing “comedians” who base their entire career on “pleasing people” and changing their entire personas to suit demographics and refuse to say anything true or sincere about anyone if its negative or controversial.
There will always be people who will casually follow drones like Leno or Ellen, and will forget everything they saw when the show was over, but I’m the type who actually wants to see something edgy, original, and provocative in my comedy, that will make an actual impact.
