The Feb. 12 opening ceremony from BC Place in Vancouver averaged 13 million Canadian viewers across 11 TV networks, which covered the event live. That was up 29% from the just over 10 million average for the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, according to the Games spokeswoman Renee Smith-Valade.

All told, some 23 million Canadians watched some part of the three-and-a-half hour opening ceremony, according to organizers.
