ABC and CBS will join NBC in airing Woods' statement live at 11a ET on Friday.
I got an e-mail that read "NBC won't show all Olympics events live, but will show Tiger Woods' statement live. WTF?" It then went on to rage about NBC's tape delay practice.
Though I'll admit that I'd prefer to see the events live, especially since I'm in a situation where I'd be able to watch them live, at this point I'm more annoyed by all the whining about the tape delays than the actual tape delays.
Here's one thing you can bet on: if ABC and CBS were also showing the Olympics, NBC would definitely be showing them live. But then NBC wouldn't have paid $820 million for the rights to the games it says it will lose $250 million on.
I'm not really thrilled by all the Tiger coverage and the only thing I reallywant to know is when he is coming back. But I doubt I'll be able to resist watching his statement. I might even embed the live streaming from Hulu into a blog post.

I don’t understand why he feels he needs to make a statement. This is between him and his wife.
he has a billion dollar image that’s been very tarnished, so I’d guess $$$ is the root cause.
There goes productivy in offices around the country
What is the world coming to?
Yep, it’s all about the do-re-mi. TW’s facing the public because he wants the $$$ that sponsorships bring his way. He’s revealed to the world by his actions that he is graceless and self-absorbed, a man without character, without dignity, and entirely without shame (until caught!). His job tomorrow, his objective, is to prove to you that he’s worthy of your forgiveness. He doesn’t really want your forgiveness. He does want the do-re-mi. The networks, which also are without shame, also want the $$$, and are willing to treat him with the same priority — live breaking coverage — that it would give to a national emergency! Enjoy the circus!
Tiger, if you are listening…don’t do it! No talk unless your wife says it is ok. Just a suggestion.
The tape delay didn’t hurt NBC’s ratings at all, I guess the average viewer don’t really care at all if the show is on tape delay and just want to see the sports action, delayed or not.
As for Tiger Woods, the statement would be more like a sugarcoated admission but of course celebrity scandal is compelling
Go on TV, cry. Talk about how you let everyone down, yadda yadda. I don’t need to watch, I’ve seen other folks do it before.
This is a man who has done something wrong, were all sinners in the eyes of God. The best thing for us is to not judge and to let him sort his own life out.
Cody you’re living in some kinda fantasy world.
What’s he going to say that we haven’t heard or read already? Will Fox suffer for not following the other 3 nets?
I must ask this question: What does anyone expect to get out of it? I’m not being faceitious here, I really want to understand what folks expect from it all.
Maybe Tiger Woods will run away and get a conscience in private somewhere other than here? Wouldn’t that be great?!?!?!
What kind of statement can he make? I’m a douchebag? Cause really, anything else 99% of women wouldn’t believe or want to hear. He did what he did, is he going to try to justify it now? Frak him. And really, it is between him and his wife. Who cares. There’s nothing more uncomfortable then watching someone try to lie or BS their way out of something. And even if he says ‘I have no excuse’ again, who really cares. We know already all there is to know, sexual gratification/conquest is the thing he cares most about/needs most. So be it. Let him do what he has to do. In a way he really doesn’t owe anyone an explanation. He is what he is.
Jason Clinkscales – good question and your name rocks!!!!
It’s infotainment, isn’it. Even information is a market
Jason Clinkscales, I expect to get nothing from the statement so I won’t watch it. Tiger will talk awhile but say nothing. We know what’s coming because we’ve seen it previously. I have no idea why anyone would watch it.
I’m hoping he will use my name and apologize to me personally. Something along the lines of, “And, Mr. Schmoker, to you most of all I give out my heartfelt regrets. You tried to tell me to just buy some whores; if I only would have listened. But I thought you said “horse” and that seemed sick even for me.”
Oh, wait, no, I don’t give a tinker’s damn. I forgot.
Speaking of the Olympics, do the unexpected enormous ratings mean the 250 million dollar loss is now history? Any idea if the ad rates were structured on a sliding scale based on ratings? Sort of a reverse of the situation where a net doesn’t meet its numbers and has to give out make goods?
And, boy, doesn’t NBC wish it now had held off selling the full two weeks? Or did they think of that and leave some open spots to sell in case the ratings were a house afire?
@AniMatsuri – I am sure, if anything, Fox NEWS will carry the Tiger thing, as well as MSNBC and CNN. I don’t believe Fox the broadcast network does anything special during the week in the daytime… with the exception of the Michael Jackson ceremony… I don’t think Fox has been active in daytime since the old “Fox Kids Network” days but I could be wrong…
I’m not in a fantasy world thats the best thing for us to do except that we wont do it.
