"Past Life" Canceled By FOX

FOX has canceled new drama Past Life and it has been pulled off the schedule.  FOX will burn the remaining episodes off later this season or summer.

For the next three Thursdays Fox will air new episodes of Kitchen Nightmares on Thursdays at 9pm (though Kitchen Nightmares will also still continue to air on Fridays).  On March 18 & 25  Bones and Fringe reruns will air Thursdays before originals return the following week.

Hardly a surprise after last night's 1.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating.  If you see an announcement about ABC's The Deep End (also a 1.1 rating)  being canceled soon you won't be shocked either, though in its favor is (I think) there is only one episode of it left anyway.

    OMG!! I AM SO SURPRISED!!!

  2. Brad

Good news for Fringe/Lie to Me!

  3. Bruce

I honestly don’t know how this show got a pilot order in the first place. I’m not being curt here, I’m just bewildered. Though, I suppose if a TV show starring the Geico cavemen can make it to air this isn’t all that odd in comparison.

  4. Samuel

    That was fast

  5. Mel

    9PM on Thursday’s claims another victim . . . . . . .

  6. Gaaa

The show had so much potencial, but in the end it was just terrible, one of worst whow in televison history.

It’ll be interesting to see how Kitchen Nightmares does at 9p Thursdays, especially once the Olympics are over. I think comparing the initial ratings of Fringe on its return to the Thursday Kitchen Nightmares post-Olympics will give us a pretty good idea of its prospects for next season.

Considering this is a rookie show with 2 unknown actors as your leads and a horrible timeslot, not a surprise at all.

I guess it makes sense for FOX to waste new episodes of Lie to Me or Fringe right now and air filler like Kitchen Nightmares.

  9. This show has a premise for a _movie_. (Remember “I see dead people”?) but not for 24-48 episodes. As an amature writer/designer of stories, I couldn’t see where this could _go_. It just has no legs.

I didn’t hate the casting, though it *did* manage to equate republicans with evil people, but somehow that wasn’t enough to earn it’s place on the roster. :/

I didn’t even know this show was even on yet… LOL

random fox-related question to tvbythen staff: i know til death didnt air on sunday in east coast due to nascar. did it air on west coast? (Not sure if you can tell in ratings)

  12. Don J

I was going to watch this, but mother tried it 1st and said it’s basically a rip-off of Medium.

  13. Stefan

Like all of you, shocked & appalled @ the cancellation! ;)

    @ron:

According to Wikipedia FOX aired, in their infinite scheduling wisdom, episodes of Til Death 3×13 and 4×07 on Sunday at 7 PM simultaneously.

  14. Stefan

    Oops, not simultaneously, obviously. :)
    I meant, back-to-back.

  15. Empire

Well duh. Everyone saw this coming, even Fox knew the series wouldn’t do well hence the order of 7 episodes, but doubt they saw it falter as much as it did, even in the post idol slot did terrible. With Fringe basically loved by FOX it will be renewed, now hopefully SYTYCD stays in the summer and Human Target continues to flop, so that Lie To Me can also return. Honestly think Fringe and Lie To Me are the next level of Fox. Time for 24 to go to the silver screen.

  16. pov

I liked it. Networks are run by idiots. Nowadays shows aren’t given a chance to develop or grow on anyone. And using the ratings as the sole or main criterion is becoming less meaningful. I watched the show on Hulu.

  17. Who Knows?

When does the Deep End get cancelled? They should put Ugly Betty back her in old spot.

  18. Olegas

Where’s the confidence FOX has on Lie to Me? Its the perfect slot to put: after Bones.

  19. Jared

pov, i think i got a bingo in 1 try from you.

  20. Don J

pov: All TV shows have to use the ratings system. It’s the only way that advertisers and the network can see how well the show is performing and whether or not the advertisers will continue to buy spots on the show.

Empire: I want Human Target to come back another season. You may not like it, but I think it’s a fun action packed hour like a mini James Bond movie.
