Ratings for Archer Rise vs. Olympics; Burn Notice Drops

Reversing a four week string of ratings drops from its season premiere on FX,  last night's episode of Archer increased from the previous week.  At .868 million and a .4 adults 18-49 rating, the numbers still seem small, but up is up, and against the Olympics.

USA Network isn't having as much luck against the NBC mother ship's coverage of the Olympics in Vancouver.  On Wednesday Psych saw drops, and last night Burn Notice dropped to 4.12 million viewers and a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating.  Last week Burn Notice drew 4.66 million and a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating.

Date Net Show 18-49 Rating/Sh Viewers (Millons)
14-Jan-10 FX Archer .9/2 1.82
21-Jan-10 FX Archer .7/2 1.23
28-Jan-10 FX Archer .5/1 0.87
4-Feb-10 FX Archer .4/1 0.62
11-Feb-10 FX Archer .3/1 0.76
18-Feb-10 FX Archer .4/1 0.87

  1. That’s just got to be SLIGHTLY heartening for Archer fans, right?

BTW, I wondered initially why they got Judy Greer to play a practically minor role in Cheryl/Carol. Well, the last few weeks, we’re seeing why – Judy Greer plays an off her rocker crazy chick scarily well.

  2. Good to see, even though it’s such a slight increase.

Off topic: Do you or any other site have the numbers for HBO’s How to Make it in America?

  3. Cullen

Great news if the numbers continue to show even slight growth through the rest of Archer’s run that could be enough for FX to renew it.

  4. Anthony: you should probably be slapped for not following @travisyanan on Twitter who links to his regular posting of cable data on Berman’s site.

The numbers were pretty bad, like 640,000. I don’t remember the 18-49, but it wasn’t any good either. Though premiering against the Olympics can’t be much fun.

  5. Ryan

Good to see an increase! I hope it sticks around next season so FX could build an audience for it. Last night’s episode was hilarious.

I doubt that a 0.1 hiccup in the demo for Archer is going to have a dramatic impact regarding renewal.

As for Burn Notice and Psych, it’s reasonable to suggest that the demographic for these shows, largely male, I’d venture, is likely to tune in to the Games. Their viewers will be back, post-Games.

Archer’s very male skewing, as well (I presume).

  8. Brian

How to make it in america also probably didn’t have good numbers because you could see the pilot episode on several different websites a week before it even came on.

  9. Thanks Robert, I don’t use twitter but I’ll be checking that guy’s twitter for the show’s numbers.

  10. grr_argh

I honestly believe that the show’s premiere is now on Hulu helped with the increase.

  11. Jeff

I use to be a huge Burn Notice nut, after a few eps this season I just stopped caring. We get it, you wear cool sunglasses, and now the show is going no where.

  12. JVO

Reason for Archer’s increase: FX finally put a couple episodes on Hulu to give it some exposure.

  13. JVO

Or exactly what grr_argh said. Heh.

  14. true american

BN should rise in two weeks.

  15. Ryan

Hopefully next week’s Archer marathon will help people catch up, too. Sucks there isn’t a new one Thursday, though. :(

Great news, but Archer is still in the DANGER ZONE!

In addition to the Hulu episodes up, some episodes were apparently On Demand on Comcast according to a friend, and I caught a promo on Fox on sunday night.

I’m tempted to believe that Hulu is related to the bump in ratings because the show speaks for itself, and is better than a 30 second ad, even a good one, suggests.

    But, y’know, fanboy speaking.

  18. Craigward, they have been available On Demand since the beginning of the season and they keep the most recent four episodes up.

  19. Buddy

I think Archer is the reason FX moved “Louie.” They see that original comedies need a lead-in. I think this won’t be coming back. Or it will be scheduled after an established show.

I have to agree Burn Notice is in big danger of become repetitive to enough people who leave permanently.

I’m not sure what they should do to shake it up, but they are giving the appearance of not having a long term plan (tm XFILES).

Again, I think the Mentalist is hurting Burn Notice a touch this year as well. It is easier to catch up on Burn Notice than The Mentalist
