ABC Surges Against Olympics on Friday – #1 Non-Sports Net

This is an archived article and the information in the article may be outdated. Please look at the time stamp on the story to see when it was last updated.

Update: originally the episode of Kitchen Nightmare’s was referred to as a new episode below, but last night’s episode was a repeat, that for whatever reason wasn’t designated a repeat in the Nielsen report. I’ve edited ABC’s text slightly to correct for that.

some early ratings notes from ABC:

Jumping week-to-week against the Winter Olympics by 1.8 million viewers (4.9 million vs. 3.1 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs. 1.0/3), ABC took second place on Friday night on both Nielsen measures.  Among Adults 18-49, ABC beat its non-sports Friday competition on CBS and Fox by 36% each (1.5/5 vs. 1.1/4 – CBS and Fox tied).

  • Despite facing Olympic competition, ABC posted a 6-week-high on Friday night with Adults 18-34.

From 8-10pm, a rebroadcast airing of the theatrical Meet the Fockers made ABC the #1 non-sports network in Total Viewers (5.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.6/5).  In fact as it built audience in the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s replay movie beat out a rerun Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares by 2.7 million viewers (5.4 million vs. 2.7 million) and by 64% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5 vs. 1.1/3).

  • With the rebroadcast movie scheduled against the Olympics, ABC pulled in its top non-sports numbers in the 2-hour time period since November with viewers and young adults – since 11/20/09.

Growing the 10 o’clock hour week-to-week for the Net, ABC News’ 20/20 finished as the #1 non-sports program in its time period with key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54).

  • Opposite the Olympics, 20/20 boosted Friday’s 10pm hour week-to-week by 1.2 million viewers (4.6 million vs. 3.4 million), by 18% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.1/3) and by 31% in Adults 25-54 (1.7/5 vs. 1.3/3).
